I was thinking of putting on dual exhaust on my 96' 3.9L V6, but what makes it sound the best but still have the power? And also I heard that straight pipes ruin the engine so whats the deal.

Thanks

Heh, you won't get away with Straight pipes in a 1996 year vehicle. It's not legal for emissions. For a V6, a true dual exhaust would be a good way to go, however, it would be expensive to do. Just go to a muffler shop and get a new less restrictive muffler and some 3" or 2 1/2" diameter tubing. Magnaflow makes a good free flowing type of muffler and will give you a healthy sounding exhaust. You won't feel the power benefit until higher up in the RPM range on your 3.9L. I'd recommend like I said, Magnaflow muffler. Just go talk to your local muffler shop, and they will set you up. The thing about straight pipes hurting your engine is semi true. You need a certain amount of back pressure built up in the exhaust system for it to work correctly, but more often than not, factory exhaust systems are too restrictive.
