Message: There were two:
One to re torque the seat belt bolts and one to reprogram the electronic transfer case. It seems as though without the reprogramming, the transfer case can unexpectedly shift into neutral. You can find both of the recalls listed in:
www.Alldata.com
Also, even though it is not listed; if you have 4WD, check the front axle shaft CV joint boot. It is the part that goes into the transfer case. At 40K miles the boot fell apart on my Quad and all the grease leaked out causing the CVs to fail. Replacement of the front axle shaft was $370.00(US) NOT including labor.

Message: Can anyone tell me what the Sept 00, 08-26-00 central timer lock up reacll is all about. I've had my 01" quad cab to the dealer 5 times. Here is the scenario..engine would crank over but would not start, fuel gauge would show empty regardless of how much fuel is in the tank, low fuel light, "no bus" would be displayed in the digital odometer, check gauges light would be on. Dealer has no answers.......

Message: I also have a 2001 quad cab. I love the style and the ride but I am already starting to have problems at 33,000 miles. I just needed to replace the rotors and drums to the truck. The pads were fully intact but the rotors were literally rusting from the inside out and the rear drums were warped. I first noticed a pulse in the brake pedal before my brakes just failed. While they were fixing my brakes (Raybestas) they noticed all the grease was leaking out of my CV joint on the front axle. That mechanic saved me alot of money, the warranty for the axle runs out at 36,000 miles according to the dealer. Definite quality issues with this truck.

Message: I bought a brand new 2001 Dakota SLT ext.cab in September 0f 2000. I love the body styling and the roomy interior. But, since day one, I have had problems with this truck! First, the gear shift lever failed, so the truck could not be placed on park, it would only go to neutral, and I had to use the emergency brake when I parked it.
Second, the drums were not placed properly, so I had squeeling. That was on the first week of driving it. The warranty took care of these first two issues. Then, my brakes wore out at 36 thousand miles or so. The discs were shot as well. Now, after my warranty has expired, my CV ball joints on the front end had to be repaced, and the rear differential fluid dried up, ruining the rear ball joints as well. I am going to Chrysler with this and will fight to get my money back on this last repair! Any suggestions?

Message: I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota quadcab and have had problems with it from day one. The headlights come on all by their self. I noticed it in the middle of the night . Then the brain went out and had to be replaced. Next two air sensors went out. Next the other two air sensors went out. Now the oil pump failed and the CV joints are bad. I can't trade it in because I owe more then anyone will give as a trade in. The word is out these trucks are LEMONS.

Message: Gman -- either you're yanking someone's chain (maybe mine) or your mechanic is yanking yours. What is a CV Ball Joint? A CV Joint is a Constant Velocity joint in the axles and driveshafts -- kind of a modern day Universal Joing (U-Joint). A Ball Joint connects the wheel and connected apparatus to the suspension. Two different animals.
AND .... as far as your statement "the rear differential fluid dried up, ruining the rear ball joints as well" ... I certainly hope you didn't pay a mechanic for this. Diff Fld does not dry up (not in this application anyway -- I think you're diff cover would melt before your diff fluid evaporated). Also, there are no ball joints on the rear of a Dakota. Goodness Gracious. Please tell me your message was some kind of prank. Please.

Message: Well, I'm sorry to hear so many of you have problems with your Dakota's. I've had my 2001 2WD Quad Cab 4.7L for 97000 miles now and just replaced the brakes, all four ball joints, and did a 3inch cat-back exhaust system.
Only problem has been noisy limited slip diff. on turns which additive helped. Engine still is strong and I've used a Fram PH8A (twice the oil capacity compared to the stock PH16) all along. NO LEMON HERE!

Message: I'm with RTbill. My '01 QC 5.9 4x4 3.92LSD Dakota now has 46,000 miles. Just got back from a trip up the Million Dollar Highway. Truck runs great, handles mountain passes with ease, and is very comfortable. Brakes are excellent. I do routine maint, use Mobile 1 with a large remote filter, and grease the sway bar bushings whenever they need it. Both recalls have been done: 4x4 computer and seat belt bolts. Only mods are an open element air cleaner and Hypertech. Love my Dakota, and fully expect to get another 45,000 trouble free miles out of it.

Message: I love my 01 Dakota but have 3 problems:
1) speedometer is sticking at 0 till I get up to about 30 mph and then it goes to the right speed. Why?
2) differential makes a noise when I back up and crank hard left or right.
3) brake and abs lights came on about 2,000 miles ago but the brakes check out good. Is this just one of those service lights that come on at a certain mile mark? It has about 47,000 miles on it.
Thanks for any response(s)
