Subject: 92 paint IP: Logged
Message: I have a 92 3.9, 4wd dakota. When I bought it a few months ago the paint on the hood, roof and part of one door was peeling very badly. If I go to a dodge/chryseler dealership do you think they would help out on a new paint job. Im thinking that the paint was defective for that truck.
thanx

Message: I have a 94- same problem. Very common for earlier-mid 90's because enviromental changes to paint formulas-I have contatced, dodge, chrysler, dealer, etc-to no avail. Area rep said he' do 10% of "affected area. well, that doesn't mean that another area wouldn't peel, too Still fighting the problem-class action???

Message: lessee now you bought a 11 year old used truck with bad paint and, even tho you knew the paint was bad when you bought it you want someone to give you a free paint job. Right? How fricken stupid are you????? Used vehicles that old are sold as is where is, no warrentee of any kind. go buy yourself an air compresser and a spray gun.

Message: Yes , they had a friggin paint problem from 88-90something and they paid to have them fixed when the truck was under WARRANTY YOU IDIOTS!!!
This subject has been spoke of many times , here and at other places , like the last guy said...you bought it AS IS , you knew about the problem , it`s not a saftey problem , it`s cosmetic. Now go have it stripped and repainted and quit bitchen about it.
If any manufacturer paid to have a veh. repainted , regardless of how old , who do you think would pay in the end...
The consumer , because it would be included in the price of the NEW truck. Instead of a veh. being 25-30K they would probably be 70-100K!!!

Message: the above reply is why this forum, along with 99% of all other internet forums are flawed.
why cant he say that he is not happy with the quality of a product he bought? ill tell you, my 79 z28 has 182,000 miles on it. you know what ive dont to it? starter/smog pump/alternator/and regular tune ups(plugs, wires, cap, rotor) thats it! no other problems what so ever. im very happy with my car. my 91 dakota has 81,000 miles. peeling paint like crazy. bad sensors temp/oil/speed sensors. two cracked manifolds, which no one but the dealer carries. for $380 each! tranny still whines and shifts incorrectly. absolutly no low end torque. takes me a block to get to 25 mph! i feel like im 80(no offense to you 80 year old people :P) seat tracks are all broken and the seats wont go forward/back or lean.
bottom line is i got lucky on the camaro, i know of people who had a lot worse luck, and i was unlucky with my dakota, which very very few other people had better luck than me. these trucks are very problematic and if someone feels an urge to vent about it, let them! it doesnt hurt anyone else!
your post on the other hand took a direct shot at someone. you have no right to verbally abuse anyone so if you chose to please keep it to yourself. this is a place where an 8 year old can view. would you want your 8 year old saying that to you because someone on the internet didnt have the patience to just click back on their browser and continue to the next post?
kinda long, read it if you want, just a vent because some people on this board bug me. Not necessarily whoever posted above( i just noticed they didnt even have the marbles to post their name) it was just a last straw after a long day.

Message: The problem with the paint is that they had to remove the lead from the primer so it never really bonded to the surface. Chrysler, GM, and Ford all had this problem and issued an internal recall so only the dealers knew about it. From what I've read, they put a 5 year time limit on it so after that, you're SOL. If you had a problem before the 5 year limit and bitched enough, they should have repainted your vehicle.
