My transfer case just shattered on the front not sur why. My
question is this. The truck still runs fine in rwd however with a
broken transfer case is it ok to drive this way for around town?
There is now no fluid in it and no way to keep fluid in it.

My daughter was driving in town when there was a terrible grinding noise and the truck just stopped. It will haltingly go slowly in 4WD but nothing in AWD. Case is not cracked.

purchased a 2001 Dakota QC AWD with 102000 miles on it last summer. Drove it from Lost Wages to our home in NW Florida without any problems. A few weeks later my daughter was driving around town with a friend when !BANG! the txfr case quit and split nearly exactly in two . . . appears to be lack of lubrication in the CV joint on the front of the unit. Was able to pick one up in a local bone yard and it has been running well ever since.
