 Subject: Stupid Ashtray?

Has anyone run into a problem with the ashtray opening by itself? Whenever I drive my truck over any rough surface (RR tracks, potholes, snowcovered roads, off road, etc), the stupid ashtray pops open!
It's going back to the dealer, but I was curious to see if anyone had run across this and had any solutions, since like everything else with the dealer I will end up fixing it myself because they are morons.

My '01 had trouble with the ashtray falling open all the time, right from the start. First visit back to the dealer for the initial oil change I mentioned it, they ordered in a new ashtray and replaced it. No problem since.

It is stupid, to put something that so little of the population now do-smoke.
Why don't they add whell chair lifts to all models also?
Oh yea, a larger portion of the younger crowd is smoking now. Increased intelligence in these young people?-NOT

(In my best "south-of-the-border accent..) Ashtray?? Ashtray?? I don't need no stinking ashtray....
I am a non-smoker, so it never crossed my mind, but I had my truck almost a year before I realized that I don't have an ashtray in my '02 Dakota.

Yeah, my '02 doesn't have one either. i believe it's an option now, 'smokers group' or something like that.
'02 Sport 4.7 auto, Gibson exhaust, homebrew K&N cold air, 275/60 BFG Radial T/A's, Infinity CD w/Pioneer & Infinity spkrs & Kenwood powered sub.

2003 .. No ash-tray. I am smoker and have always smoked in my vehicles, but not this one! I never have used THE ASHTRAY IN any CAR.

remove the ash tray as if you are going to empty it of ashes. See the little white plastic dots on several places on it? Those are the friction points that are supposed to keep it closed. Try bending SLIGHTLY the points outward to make them rub a little bit harder. Then replace it in the hole in the dash where it belongs. That should fix it. If not, bend Slightly more. If that does not work try using a bit of velcro on the tray and inside the tray recepticle to hold it in place. Most RV shops sell small patches of it that glue on. Usually 4"X4" or 6"X6 or so in size. It can be cut with scissors to fit the size you need.

Ashtray? At least you have one! I dont have that or a cigarette lighter to come with mine. Had to buy an aftermarket lighter. And I cant even use the one within reach. I have to use the auxiliary one, since my Code 3 DeckBlaster is using the convenient one!

I could never figure out why the dash of my vehicle had to be disfigured with an ugly hole and flip down tray just to satisfy a mere 28 percent of adults. Minority rules, its the democratic way!!!!!!!
