Subject: 1999 Buy Back of R./T
IP: Logged

Message:
I don't know anything about BuyBacks and how it works. However, I just bought a 1999 Dakota R/T and am now worried and concerned about what I have been reading about the buy back. I really got screwed by the dealer that I bought it from and was never told any thing about a buy back. Can anyone help me to know if mine was bought back or any other advice?

The only buy back that I know of was b/c of the tow rating on the R/T's. When they first came out the dealers had the R/T's towing capacity as the same as the other Daks. Something like 6000 lbs. Which the R/T's is actually 2000 lbs. Shouldn't be anything to worry about. Unless you wanna tow a big boat. If ya do just upgrade your hitch and receiver. Really shouldn't be towing with an R/T anyway. Road & Track.....no mention of towing! Hope that helps!

Wraith is correct ... but, the dealer SHOULD have notified you of the buyback by presenting you with a waiver or acknowledgement for you to sign. I got one with the purchase of my used R/T and was told that it was mandatory for them to inform me. Again, if you are not happy with the 2000lb capacity...you can increase it yourself or try to take it back to the dealer for a refund/exchange. Without the signed waiver...don't see how they can refuse you.

I was reading on the NHTSB site about some buy backs due to brake problems some of them just bizzare! Why do they even offer a tow package when you can't tow anything over 2000 pounds with it? Shouldn't even being working up much of a sweat! I think some of it certainly has to do with the crappy brakes! But also those low profile tires make it squirly on the highway especially if there is the slightest road imperfection! I was towing my 65 mustang behind it and hit a portion of the road that was grooved from heavy truck traffic and man I almost didn't save it! Over correcting is a understatement You sneeze on the wheel and it looked like a snake slithering up the freeway at 65!!! Yeah I put a real hitch on it too before I even attempted that stunt. But I'll be trying a different wheel tire combo for towing!

I bought mine new in '99...
Still have it and still love it.
There is nothing WRONG the the truck,
the tow rating Was reduced and Mr Mopar
offered us a 2000 for FREE... I do have a boat but this has been one of the best trucks I ever bought, just drive it and forget the OLD buyback crap!
