Message:
After I fill up it seems like there are gas fumes in the cab. Is this just due to the close proximity of the neck to the cab? Thanks

Help. I noticed the same thing in my 4.7 2001 QC. Not all the time. But a couple of times it was really strong, like gas was leaking in the truck.

Might be your ORVR (go here here for more info).
Might want to take it to the dealer and get them to take a look at the ORVR.

Thanks Spitfire. This happened to be quite a few times always when I was driving down the road and made me pull over real quick. I even took to carring a fire extinguisher. But never could find a leak and it really perplexed me as to how it could still be so strong in the cab even with the vent closed! I never could find any single combination of circumstances that would cause it to happen. Thanks

I own a '92 Regular Cab. My problem with gas fumes was the rubber grommet going into the gas tank from the filler tube. It was hard and cracked. The local dealer had it in stock, according to the parts mgr, they move 5-10 a month. It was about $18.

I also forgot to mention that there were a few trucks I found the leaks were due to someone drilling holes through the bed and accidently into the tank, easy with a dakota due to the plastic tank. My previous reply fixed my problem with gas fumes when I filled the tank.
