Message: Well here I go again. The third one let go last night. The truck mow has 53,000--about 15,000 since the last problem. This will be number 4. Why in the world would any company continue to say that I am the only one with this problem. There must be thousands of people out there(not aware of this post)going thru this same crap.
Do any of you know how to transfer this thread to Dodges complaint Dept.?
I will print it and deliver it to the dealer with the stinky/sticky truck.

Message: Well I guess it?s good to know I'm not alone because, according to Daimler/Chrysler Customer (we don't) Care, I'm the only one who has ever had any kind of problem with a 2000 Dakota (damn those trucks are good). Two sets of rotors and one heater core later I tend to disagree.
I noticed in a previous post that when the poster brought his rotor problem to the dealer's attention the dealer accused the owner of, what, using the brakes too much? Funny, my dealer did the same thing. I carefully explained to him that the only load this ruff tuff pick-up was carrying was me, all 170 lbs of me and that 90% of my driving was highway/no braking. It didn't matter; the dealer didn't do anything to help.
I could have lived with the rotors (well not really, I'd already decided no more Chryslers in this boy's future) but the heater core, on a three year old vehicle, ridiculous.
I guess I can see Chryslers point in stonewalling their customers on manufacturing/engineering defects, if they acknowledge the problem then they would become responsible for it, right? Hey wait, aren't they responsible for these problems anyway? I guess the accountants and lawyers at Daimler have determined that it costs less to attract a new customer than it does to keep an existing one. I just wish they would stop sending me promotional materials on new models, then they could use the money they save to design better vehicles.

Message: Dodge's Non-Customer Service also told me I was the only one to report a heater core failure. I am so sick of American auto companies that will not own up to their defects and then bitch about dying sales! I bought my wife a Nissan last year and Customer Service has been great. They even notify us of problems (use this advice Chrysler). No one should be surprised that consumers like myself are switching to the foreign auto market. Chrysler is the bottom of the barrel.

Message: Heres another sucker. I noticed the same symptoms and came to this site. Unfortunately reading your posts makes me more depressed. I've got about 50k on it. Luckily it's leased, and I can give back their piece of junk.
Unfortunately, I went over my 48,000 mile limit. So I've have to pay for each mile.

Message: I am putting in my second heater core at 53K. First one was at 24K and done under warranty. Was told would cost $943 ($752 labor). Told dealer no way. Came back with splitting "cost" repair 3 ways (dealer, Dodge, and myself) $140. Still not happy but better that $943. Going to continue to pursue matter. It is a problem that Dodge needs to own up to and address. Class action lawsuit?

Message: Add me to the list. I have a 99 Dakota V6. I've been smelling antifreeze for weeks when I accelerate above 3500 rpm. Didn't want to believe it was the heater core. Had a small leak at the thermostat gasket. Repaired that, still had the smell just after accelerating. Finally noticed foam around heater core lines enter the firewall was wet. Yep, antifreeze. None in floor yet. Everyone tells me it's an awful job so I checked around for prices, my dealer offered the best price. I was shocked.

Message: Here's the scoop (or at least what the Dealer Service Dept is telling me) - In the last year and a half I've gone thru 4 heatercores. I have 59,000 miles on my 4.7 QC. The first, of course, went out about 1000 miles after warranty. This time (the 4th) I raised holy hell with them and told them they better figure out what the f-ck is going on because that isn't normal - and that I was more than happy to tell everyone I respect to stay away from Dodge. Anyway, they checked with Chrysler and it appears that unintended voltage is passing through the heater core causing an electrolytic reaction with the aluminum tubing in the core, thereby causing a breakdown in the aluminum, and eventual failure. The remededy is a new heater core and a ground wire off it it to the frame. They think this'll be it. We'll see - I'll let you know in 6 mos.
