Can anyone tell me how to hold the engine from turning when I am trying to remove the vibration damper bolt. I did as the book said and removed the starter and pinned the flywheel but I couldn't get the bolt off. Is there a tool to pin the flywheel other than a screwdriver as the book said. Thanks

i recently removed and reinstalled the heads on my 96 dodge 3.9 and now i hear a loud tapping sound it seams to be coming from the lifters. is there a certain torque to adjusting the lifters and is there a possibility that i am just really off timing. it did not do this at all until i performed the job.

Hey.

I have a 93 3.9 l that is very noisy when cold or damp outside. It seems the engine coughs, sputters, spurts and barely stays alive. When it's warm, I don't have this problem. It seems to occur below 1500-2000 rpm. I have looked at the timing chain, cap & rotor, plugs, wires, tune up. All the usual suspects. I really need help!! I have sunk over $1700 into this one problem and not found a solution.....
Anybody....?

Hello,

I have a 95 sport with the 3.9 w/215K miles and rattles like a diesel. It also is over heating at high speed. (70+) I suspect timing too far. All cooling system parts replace not too long ago. Can you set distributor buy timing light? Dealer said no and wants to charge $$ just to set timing. I am about to replace my t-chain&gears and would also like to know where to get the double set. I am also looking to purchase another Dakota in the SW area. Handy Site. Thanks

Ken

Hey,

That was exactly the problem!! It's the gear between the bottom of the distributor cap and the oil pump. Careful though, there is also a brass bushing or sleeve that fits around the drive gear as you sink it down the hole. If that is not true to round, than it should be replaced as well. I had to remove the intake and all to get this stupid thing out. Pain in the a#s!!

Long story short..... My problem was fixed. I do appreciate all the posts here, and consider this sight to be helpful. As long as the spammers stay clear!!!!!!!!

Keep the dirty side down!

Pete

HI: I have a serious sound like..a knockin / like tapping sound coming fro my motor 3.9 v6 dodge dakota 4x truck 2002...

Oh by the way I have a running record of all the regular oil changes..so now what????? This truck is still under warranty..so ..what do I do now?? Anyone have any good ideas..I just want to be able to drive my truck...I love my truck!!! please help..if anyone can ...thnx
