Co-worker had one done. Same year and
model as yours. Was having an extended
cranking problem before starting. Seems
pretty typical considering a few years back
there was a TSB on that condition for Jeep
Grand Cherokees with 5.2L/5.9L engines.
As I recall the trucks use a similar style, most
likely from the same vendor.

I had the fuel pump on my 99 sport 2wd V6 replaced at 51,000. Awfull feeling. I thought the tranny was broke because 5th gear basically didn't work and all the truck did was sputter. Unfortunately I was past warrenty and it isn't a cheap fix.

I just had this done.
I have a 2000 4.7 4x4 with 49,000 miles. The pump basically quit. I had only 19psi when it is supposed to be 49.5psi.
The part alone was $443.75
Now that its replaced, my egine light comes on showing codes: P0300, P0302, P0304 (Cylinder Mis-fires). I have to go back to the shop today.

The vehicle is only 2 years old. Of course the warranty is expired. I still don't feel that we should be responsible for paying for this repair.
Does anyone know a contact at DaimlerChrysler that we can contact?

I had to replace the one on my 94. The pump wasn't as expensive. I purchased it through NAPA. The dealers really do mark them up. I think I paid $150.00, I also replaced the filter $40.00 Wasn't too bad of a job, but I had a full tank when it went, so I had to give away alot of gas

snoviper,
I do believe that the fuel pumps used on the 94 were different from those used on the 97-01.

Hey, you guys need to look at your manual or your warranty booklet. I have a 2000 qc with the 5.9 and the fuel pump is covered under warranty for six years or 72,000 miles! You need to tell the dealership about it or they wont know, they all have blinders on.

What if the repair has already been done?
Is there a way to get re-imbursed?
How can we call DCX Warranty Directly?

My 93 5.2 V8 fuel pump died at about 172,000. It gave some warning, but not much. The "easy" way to change the pump is remove the bed. No fuel loss or problems if the tank is full, half full or almost empty. Used factory pump heard reports that after market units did not hold pressure in correct range.

I hate to spend hundreds af dollars an something I could fix at home... Thanks... Also, can you get to connector on pump to see if the wires have come off without removing the Tank. And is it easier to take the Bed off or drop the Tank?

I have a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 4.7 liter engine. So far it always starts but only after cranking 2 or 3 times. I imagine I am screwed as far a Chrysler is concerned. Any body else having the same problem. Also will this leave me high and dry one day or is it something I can live with.

I don't know if it is my fuel pump. My gas gauge is broken it works until I get to a half tank and then its empty. I think it might be the gas gauge.

it's alot easier to pull the bed with the right tools. there is nothing the dealership can do if your veh is out of warrenty, no matter what goes wrong. the only way you might get around that is to call DC. but even then, if it's not within warr. service contract, then your on your own. The fuel pump and sending unit is serviced as an assembly, which is why they are so expensive. And if your wondering, yes i am a service tech at a dealership. i see things from the other side of the fence. and please, just don't be too picky when you get a new vehicle, there are somethings we can't do.

You guys in California are LUCKY!!
Your fuel pump is warranted up to 7 years or 70,000 miles. The rest of us are only covered up to 3 years or 36,000 miles. At least thats what mine was.

I have a 92 with a v8 that stops without warning. It only happens after the engine is warm. I wait 2-3 minutes and it starts and runs fine. Anyone had a similair problem? I think it might be the fuel pump.

Hi,

My '97 Dak 3.9 2wheel, had its fuel pump replaced a
couple of years ago. I just found this GREAT site here at
Dodgedakotas dot com or else I would have posted it
long ago. For the record, I have the lifter noise issue
which I am going to fix using the TSB for time chain,
and also the Engine Roar explained in TSB 07-05-
98...Gosh I wish I found this site while in Warranty.

Also had manifold bolt break 2k out of warranty and got
rude with the dealer...asked them how I am responsible
for THAT...got them to pay half. Seems like being rude
is the only way to get some dealers attention.

Thanks for all the useful info!

Sturg

I am not sure if it's the fuel pump, but I here this bell noise off and on. I notice it more when I'm at a half tank of gas, and then the gas gauge drops down to empty and later goes back. Is any one else having this problem?
