HELP I have replaced my fuel pump(aftermarket) every two years for the last 8 years.... But now I have a new problem, when doing 40-60 mph with overdrive off the truuck acts like it leans out to much. I can hit the gas harder and it is fine .at idle its fine although when I go down a bumpy hill it does do the said thing when i first hit the gas. 92 dakota 318 4x4 BOB

I have a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab with a 4.7, I've been told my fuel pump is sending too high a voltage...fuel gauge works when it pleases...I watch the odometer so I don't run out. I realize I need to replace it, but at $500, I think I can manage. It's been doing this for 2 years now. My issue is I can't pass emissions

I have a 2001 Quad cab 4x4, 4.7L, with 54,000 KM, my truck won't start, it just turns over and over, then when you turn off the key and then on again, it starts no problem, a mechanic says it is probable the pump regulator that is not holding the pressure and when the key is on for awhile it builds up pressure to start it. I also noticed alot of sludge and condensation in the oil, would this also cause the hard starting problems??,is it hard to remove the tank? The pump is very expensive and not covered on warranty, I want to ensure it is the problem before I replace it, also will it eventually die or can I keep driving it like a diesel, where you have to hold the key for 30 seconds then start it.

I had a Mustangt that had that same problem as Don E. The problem was that the check valve was failing and letting the fuel back into the tank while you are trying to start it. So you would turn the key on for three seconds while the fuel pump runs and then when it stops pumping (so you can start the engine) I would turn the key off and then back on and crank the engine and it would then start. Only way to fix it was to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump with its built in check valve.

Mine is dieing. I am havin it replaced today. it has been running
kinda sluggish on and off, as well as sputtering ocationally when
i hit the gass. i then narrowed it down to only when the truck
was under half a tank. it has been gettin worse, and then
yesterday the fuel pum started to make a noticeable wine. Also,
My gas gage quit working a few months ago, Since theyre
coming from the same part/module I assume the failing gague
might be an indicator of a failing pump to come. It's to bad
these things are so expencive, i'm having it done at a garage and
they said 370 for the part and about 100 labor. He also said that
since my tank is almost full it would be easier to pulll the bed
than drop the tank.

I am trying to replace the fuel pump on my 95 Dakota with 3.9/mag. The problem is I can't get the plastic collar/ring off that holds the pump down on the tank. I've tried strap wrenches, chain wrenches and leather belts. Can anyone help me out?

you can use a large pair of water pump pliers, there is an actual wrench for it, but you would have to get it from the dealer. or use a hammer and chisel and just hit the edge to push it, it will not take much, as it is not too tight.

like Don E said you can tap it off with a chisle. but when putting it back on wet the threads with soapy water to make sure nut goes down tight, had mine done and it worked itself loose and would leak when tank was full.
I'm told NAPA will rent the spanner wrench for a few bucks.

I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7 Liter, V8 and had
the fuel pump replaced a little over a year
ago while my engine was being rebuilt. It
just went out again last week. I am trying
to find out how to locate the original part
number of the fuel pump installed so I can
know if the mechanic actually replaced it
last year. Any suggestions??? Twice in a
year doesn't seen right...
