Message: I drained the diff. and refilled with Mobil 1 synthetic and CRC friction modifier today. As soon as I started the truck and made the first turn the noise was gone completely. Amazing!

I also drained the diff. and refilled with Amsoil.......... NO friction modifier's required. I have been driving it for about two weeks now and it is honestly quiet as a church mouse and sounds better than when new. The Amsoil Dealer on this site recommended it to me and has been very helpful.

Message: The DC service manual for 2000 dakota says that if the 9 1/4 in. axle is submerged in water the lubricant must be replaced immediately to prevent premature axle failure. I think this was what caused my noise. It's been about 1000 miles since I changed the lubricant and the noise still hasn't returned so far.

Message: Hey guys, I've rebuilt dozens of diffs, incl. the 9.25 and 8.25 ( which is also called 8 3/8 !). torque and backlash specs. are very important- follow them to the letter ( some special tools are required to do it right ). If the pinion is removed, a new crush sleeve is manditory. 80W90 oil is adequate, syn. is good too. If you have the LSD be sure to use the correct friction modifier ( ask your dealer) in the correct amount. MP sells a pinion angle gage to check driveline angles, and it's not that expensive. Some steeper gears develop a whine over miles and hard use. I have a whine from 30 mph to 45 mph with my 3.92's even though everything is good inside. It started at 45K miles and has 125K miles now without getting any worse. Best of luck, I hope I've answered some questions.

Message: I added a friction modifier (last year) to my '00 Dak V8 LS differential... it removed that grunting noise, but now (at 40K)it's back. I would like to change the fluid and try one of the synthetic blends...
Did they hide the drain plug or does the old oil have to be siphoned from the filler plug?
