Message: You can't reset the odometer. It's burned into the computer.Try this: Disconnect the negative battery terminal-turn the ignition switch to the start position and hold there for about 15-20 seconds-re-connect neg battery terminal. This will clear all trouble codes and reset computer. If the light comes back on-you got a problem.Probably your O2 sensors.

Message: dave, the person that told you that is sadly mis-informed, you need a scan tool for the computer to reset the milage timer that is connected to the computer that tells you maintenence is required. However if it is the Check Engine light, without replacing the part that is sending the out of range signal to the computer, as soon as you warm the engine up enough for the PCM to go into closed loop, the light will comback on, even if the PCM is reset. And it may not be the 02 sensor it could be ANY part that is controlled by the PCM including cruise control has a failed. Rest the Odometer??? he did not ask about that!

Message: If it came on at 100,000. It may have been triggered as to have you have your air bags serviced. I know some cars do that.

Message: DAVE, TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, IT IS TRUE THE ODOMETER READING IS "SAVED" IN THE PCM, HOWEVER IT CAN BE RESET. THE PCM IS MANUFACTURED BY MOTOROLA. IN THE PCM THERE IS A 32PIN E-PROM OR AN "AMP-UP" CHIP. REPLACING THIS WILL RESET THE ODOMETER. IT IS NOT NESSARY TO RE-FLASH THE BOX AS SHIFT CONSTANTS ARE NOT STORED HERE. IT WOULD BE UNETHICAL TO TELL YOU WHERE TO GET A REPLACEMENT E-PROM, HOWEVER IF YOU DO CHOOSE THIS COURSE OF ACTION THERE ARE REPERCUSSIONS TO SUCH ACTIONS. I'M SURE YOU AGREE.

Message: the only light that I could find, after searching the service manual, that is activated by milage, is the "service engine' light, not the "check engine" light. all that 'service' light means is it is time to replace plug, cap, roter. and egr. valve, plus do a scan on the pcm to make sure all the various parts connected to it are working properly. You need a scan tool to reset it, and it has been discontinued on late model cars/trucks.

Message: YOU CANT RESET THE ODOMETER. It is stored in the pcm AND the dash cluster... when you buy the MP pcm you dont thave to program the odometer in it because the CCD bus updates the pcm ......... .

Message: you cannot "change" the odometer, you can however reburn the chip, or replace the code that it needs somehow,or just flat out replace the computer and cache memory, but you would have to be a assembly code majician to do it. I for one would like to know how to do it, I have heard of people rewriting the code to display strange things through the odometer. Would be cool.
