Subject: Truck not starting, compression?Camshaft? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 94 v6 3.9L 4x4 with 110,000 miles on it. I recently took it out and I took it up to 112 mph, which I should have not done, anyway, I only did that once or twice then I stopped and went the speed limit, (65) the rest of the way home. Anyway, it drove fine for 20 miles after I took it up to the 112 (almost 5k RPM's redline), and then I hit a stoplight and i stopped, then it ran at idle for a few seconds, then it just shut off for no reason, just the engine, not the electrical, and it wouldnt start after that, it would still crank a little bit but wouldnt turn over, but the crank didnt sound the same, alot more quieter, almost like no compression, i dont know. So I used the on board diagnostics and code 54 popped up, which came up as crankshaft not responding, anybody have ideas? Did I kill my crankshaft or the crankshaft bearings or something like that, any help would be appreciated!

Message: Probably a crank position sensor, ~$50 at your local dodge dealer.

Message: pull the distributor cap off and have somebody crank it over and watch the rotor button.if it's not turning you may have broken the timing chain. if it is ,do a compression test, if the cylenders are all low( say under 100 psi ) the timing chain may have "jumped" . or stripped the teeth of the cam gear.and still turning but all out of whack. hope this gives you a place to start.
