Message: Hey everyone, I appreciate being able to write to people about troubles with my truck. In addition to common brake pulsing which apparently everyone is suffering from, I have begun hearing a strange sort of friction grinding from underneath my '99 V-8(5.2L) Dakota towards the back when I accelerate from a stop while turning. It continues this noise for a couple seconds then kind of works itself out. This noise is especially bad in parking lots where stops and low speed turns are most common. Can anyone help?

Message: Jeff I had a similar problem with mine and it turned out to be the limited slip rear end.I had the gear oil (and limited slip additive pit in) changed at my dealer and the noise went away.I also have brake pulseing,I am going to wear them out before I do anything though.

Message: Have the springs checked, they have been known to blow out the pads between them. You haven't added any mods to the frame or body have you.

Message: nope, no mods. The noise is very annoying though and I can't wait to get it isolated so I can fix it. Hopefully it won't be too expensive.
Thanks for any help.

Message: Hey guys, the binding noise while turning is a well documented problem with the Dakota. If you read in the string labled "stering recall" you will see a Dodge TSB that that addresses this issue. Looks like there is an alignment issue with the stearing column where it will binding up producing a poping noise while turing the stearing wheel to the right or left stearing limit.
The pulseating brakes has also been addressed on here alot. It has been found that due to cost cutting efforts Dodge has used a brake rotor supplier from Mexaco that is using sub standard material to make the rotors out of. I've read where this problem can be fixed by replacing the factory rotors with stock replacement "Bendix" brand rotors while still using the good OEM mopar brake pads.
I also have both of these problems and I'm going to do the recomended stearing column adjustment called out in that TSB and I'll be replacing my rotors as well.
Hope this helps
Jay
