2003 Dakota 4x4, 3.9, 5sp. At 12k mi, My front shocks failed. They left oil all over the wheelwell and BOY... what a ride it is when you hit rough road doing 40mph or better and bounce into another lane. The ball joints will fail soon. ( i know this because the guy said "bad shocks shouldnt affect the upper ball joints)

These trucks wont allow the use of front tow hooks, nor should they be used for plowing. When I took it to the dealer for shock replacement, I took a look at the new Daks on the lot. The 4x4s have no coil springs. Only a shock. 2x2s have the coil spring.

Wouldnt a spring releve the stress put on the other componts ?

It's been my experience that a clunk sound especially over a bump indicates a Ball joint problem.

I took my '02 QC AWD 4.7 Auto to the dealerhip with a couple clunks and a rattle and a little scrapy sound. They said it was normal. I thanked them for taking the time out of their very busy schedule to help me and then went home with sound piece of mind that my truck was in tip-top shape.
