I bought a new 2002 QC Dakota , 4.7l V8 , Multi Speed auto trans.
1) what kind of mileage are others getting ?
I am getting 12 local/16.5 Highway (70-75 mph)
2) Has anyone experienced trans lockup shutter??. dealer tells me it is normal. At about 40-45 mph there is (intermittently) a shutter for maybe a second or two !
Also, lots of good info here. I have experienced alot of things others have, like occassional stall, the 'thud' a second after you come to a stop. erratic idle speed.

hey,i have a 99 ext cab 4x4 with 3.9 and have all the problems you have mentioned.i have 31000 kms on it.my milage is 14/16.i am slowly finding out that the daks are all the same.talking to other locals and driving thier trucks,no diffrence.dodge cut way to many corners when they made these trucks.get used to it.

YEP!!! My 2001 CC 4.7/auto 2x4 Has ALL the same symptoms. I can't believe that with only 17000 miles I am going to have to have a trans replaced(or something in the trans, front pump maybe) come to a stop and its four to five seconds before the trans settles down-KLUNK as the u-joints beg for mercy. 17 or 18 mpg is the best I get but that was on the sticker when I bought it so I knew what I was getting into there. And as for the shutter you mentioned, I cant say I have had that happen-but I definately feel the torque converter locking out-alot more than I used to in my other brand truck. The shifts from second to third are also very rough.
Do you want to know about the brakes?

How would rate how hard you drive ??
Not that it matters, If you buy a truck with tow
package etc. you would expect it to be tough.

My Dakota has over 125k on it, same lockup shutter around 40 mph ... given I have this many miles with no real issue arrising form this other than it's anoyance.

I have a 2001 QC DAK 4.7L. It has everthing other then rear defrost and and locker in rear diff. I have 12,000 miles on it and have been delighted with the engine and trans for the most part. The engine idle's a bit rough and is not very refined but the transmission seems to be close to perfect! I just wished it would not down shift to second when you floor it. I think third would make more sense. I guess I am lucky! I replaced my filters and fluids in the trany at 10,000 miles. I used Redline Synthetic C+ trany fluid and OEM filter's. I have never gotten any shuddering at all!
