Subject: noise after coming to a stop
IP: Logged

Message:
When I come to a stop, whether it is a quick stop or a slow stop, about 1 or 2 seconds after the truck completely stops it feels as though the truck gets hit lightly from behind. I have tried it in drive and neutral. First I thought it was the spare tire loose on the winch under the bed. Dodge rebuilt my transmission a year ago and it did it before and after. Not a huge bang but definitly noticable. Any thoughts?

Patrick it is the gas sloshing in your gas tank. Sounds silly but I am pretty sure.

I have the same problem. It is not gas slohing; it is something in the rear end or drive shaft.

Its the gas in the tank! There are no baffles (walls) in the gas tank, so the gas swishes back and forth. Usually happens between 3/4 and a full tank of gas.

My dad has a 00 dak sport reg cab 3.9 3.55 5sp and he had a noise and so he took it to the local dodge dealership and they found a 6inch pipe that someone at the factory had put in the frame so the had to take the box off and cut it out and that solved the noise

AndyL-

I heard a similar story at least ten years ago. Seems someone at a certain factory in Detroit put a can inside the back seat of a sedan. He was kind enough to leave a note saying something to the effect of "Took you long enough to find it." Seems things never change...
