Message: I went to the dealer who told me they could not find anything wrong. I went to a friend who specializes in suspension and alignment who fidured it was the bushings on the front end. They cost about $10 bucks each and their are 4 of them. Labor for them is another issue. I hope this helps. You problem sounded similar to mine. After many more miles I heard that same noise hitting bumps at high speeds as well or just driving down the highway. Good Luck!

Message: There is a TSB for this noise as well, replaces torsion bar mounts and tranny crossmember. Took care of the noise on my truck. Dealer wanted $800, did it myself (I have access to a lift) for under $200. If you still have the factory warranty they will do it free.

Message: Technical service bulletin, its an information or repair guidline created by Dodge for identified issues with a vehicle. It tells the mechanics what to look for for common issues. There are 20 or so that I have seen for my truck that had to be performed. Mostly just little irritating stuff, like funny noises and whatnot. Its stuff that Dodge recognizes as a problem but it is below the threshold of a recall. If you do a search on TSB's on this site, someone posted a website a couple months ago that lists TSB's for your vehicle.

Message: I have a 2001 Dakota 4.7L 4wd 25k miles - it's recently started the clunking noise on hard left turns as well (I posted a message on this board listing the other probs I'm having).
The dealer said my rotors need to be turned - I told them that wasn't the problem with this hard left noise. My regular trustworthy mechanic suggested it was the rack mount busing, upper control arm bushings, sway arm bushings. Dodge says they can't tell there's a problem.
Lattimer - do you know what tsb # it is that'll fix this prob? I went to alldata.com - based on the brief tsb title, I think I need #13-002-00. If you know for certain - that'll give me that much more solid ground to stand on when I'm in the dealer. Any help is appreciated!

Message: Hey Guys..that clunking noise could be your ball joints. Do a search and you'll see hundreds of posts about upper ball joints. Anyhow I changed my recently and no more clunking.
I put on my new Moog upper ball joints the weekend of 3/2/2002 which took about 5 hours. After buying a 4 inch grinder and one of those fork looking tools to seperate the ball joint from the spindal I saved myself about $190 and have two new tools. Pep boys quoted $500 bucks to change the upper ball joints. The process was relatively easy just time cosuming to grind off the old joints. I cut the boot off the old chrysler ball joint and nothing but dirt poured out of that thing. The old ball joint was so loose I could just wiggle it. The new moog joints that are greasable I couldn't even budge them. I posted some pictures at yahoo if anyone else plans on doing this. The Moog ball joints are great and no more popping when turing or going over bumps. Here's the web site with the pictures!

(Click on the folder about half way down the page)
I ordered the ball joints at www.rockauto.com and it took about 4 days to get them. $43 buck each.

Message: Deb
I know the TSB was only supposed to go to 2000 and earlier models, so it may not apply to your truck. Sorry, but I don't have the number. I got angry at the dealer and shredded all the paperwork while I was at the counter being charged $90 for a diagnosis that they could have simply looked up in the computer. I later just called up and told them what parts I needed. The TSB replaces the torsion bar mounts and the tranny crossmember. Also has new mounting bolts for the crossmember.
Now, if you are getting a clunk at full lock turn when hitting a bump, it can also just be your steering stops. I grease mine every couple of months and that noise is gone now too.
Another clunk I had was upper ball joints, both rubber boots ripped and the joints went bad, but chrysler couldn't diagnose that either. Go figure.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Message: I have that problem, but check this out... 3 or 4 times now since i have had the truck it has stalled on one of those sharp turns.
i never really worried about it since it starts up. one of the times i heard a loud pop. maybee i should worry about it?
its goign in this week to solve a prob with a pulsating when slowing (not the brakes they say) i just had new rotors, and the drums turned (11,000 and 16,000)...
they think it might be tranny related. i will mention this as well and see what i get.
well see.
