Message: I have a 1992 Dakota 3.9 and the little light came on at some odd mileage number. It happened on a Mazda we own as well, and apparently that's the dealership's job to turn off. You'd really have to look up on it, and you might have to rip the whole dashboard apart to turn it off, or, which would be a lot easier, check and see if any of the fuses belong to that little light, and replace it. I didn't bother with it; don't even know it's there now.

Message: The maintenance light came on in my '91 Wrangler so I opened the dash and pulled the light-bulb since I do all of the work myself. My 2000 dakota is a piece of cake to remove the dash can't believe an older one would be any tougher.
Good luck,

Message: The Sched. Maint. lite is activated by a little timer module on most Dodge cars & trucks. To locate it look under the lower dash panel and find a small black (usually) box about 1.5" X 3". Its in the harness and plastic clamped in place. There is a small puka (hole) in the box with a small push button switch below. A small screw driver or pin punch will deactivate the light and reset the clock. This light comes on at about 60K miles on lots of vehicles. O2 sensor time change, spark plugs, etc. are called for. Read the Maintenance Manual ($25-30 for Clymer and $40 - 50 for Dodge OEM). I have both kinds - Clymer for my '88 Dak and OEM for my '97 Ram and like the ability to research myself. The owners manual has only basic info for "the ladies" and the white collar guys. The Check Eng. lite is the one you never want to see.
