I've had my dakota for about 4 months. Shortly after bringing it home I noticed a light knoking sound. I couldn't hear it uner the hood, only in the truck or through the outside top vents. The noise dosen't start untill the engine is warmed up and only while at idle.
When the gas is pressed the noise beats faster then stops while at a hight idle or when driving. I went to Dodge and had them look at it, they said it was a Purge Valve making noise and that theres nothing that could be done about it. They said it was nothing seriouse. But it sure is annoying sometimes. They said even replacing it wouldn't help. I was wonding if this is common or am i missing something here?

Same here...I got told the same thing. Apparently there is a cushion they can fit over the Purge Valve to make it shuttup...

I posted this before > The purge valve is touching the fire wall > I used a heavy duty strip of velcro on the fire wall behind it > Knock is gone now for over 15000 miles

I recently purchased a 98 3.9L. Sounds like same noise you describe. Please email me if you get an answer. Also do you know where this purge valve is located.
Thanks Al.
