Subject: Engine oil foaming at filler IP: Logged
Message: Who else is having this problem? It looks like the frothed milk on a cappucino or something! I talked to the dealer, and they said the TSB states this is normal.
On a related note, my dipstick say I'm 0.5qt overfull after adding the 6.0 qts with filter(owners manual). No TSB on my model about this, anyone?

THere is a TSB on this. Sounds like your dealer was too stupid and/or lazy to look it up.
It involves which fits into the fillter tube and also a re designed cap that has a cover so the cap is more insulated against cold temps.
It is not a total fix. main issue is the design, plastic which does not conduct heat like metal thus the cooler temps and teh "goo" that collects like you mentioned.
My advice: Bring a small sample to your friendly five star service advisor. Then ask him about the TSB.
GOOD luck.

I'll try another dealer, once in a while they are all boneheads. I love the motor, don't get me wrong, but I almost passed out when I saw the crap. I said...holy sh!t!!!!!!!!!!
How about the dipstick(overfilling) issue, is there a TSB on that as well??
Thanks
Chris

Message: Hi,
I have a 2000 Dakota quad cab with the 4.7 engine. I also had that foam accumulation on the cap. The dealers also gave me the run around until my pistons went through my heads. I now have my truck back after a $3300 CAN repair job. Does anyone know the phone number/address to Chrysler Canada head office complaints department.
How can I tell if my engine now has the TSB alterations installed? Also, has anyone else blown an engine from this?

Message: Here is the scoop.. I have to Daks both have 4.7 motors. The part you seek is a new cap# 53032389AC and the baffell that goes inside the filler tube, # 53032126AA, Cost is 9.00 TTL for both. This keeps the hot air from rising to the old cap and condensing moisture which gives the white stuff. And i really dont think this is why the young mans 4.7 blew up. musta been something else, the 4.7 is virtually bullet proof. Change oil at 3-4000 miles and you should have no probs..

Message: YOU GUYS ARE GONNA LAUGH. They are performing the TSB on it, but here's the kicker. According to the tech., the TSB fixes NOTHING. The baffle hides the foaming, and the cap insulates a bit better to keep the foam off of it. What a joke.
I'm having it done anyway. It is common in older Quad 4 engines, he said, to see the foam near the cap. It is just normal condensation as present in all oil systems, but on plastic caps and filler necks that do not see much engine heat you have the foam issue. Who knew.

Message: That's right the foams still down there, the baffle just covers it up so you don't complain anymore! Hows that for a fix?
If the morons would have cast the part out of metal it would conduct heat from the motor thus eliminating the problem.

Message: I just requested 2 TSB's about this from the NHTSA website. We'll see how much they charge me for the info.
FYI, I also order a TSB about the "ticking" noise that's been discussed.

Message: You have to check this crap filler often because if you let it buildup too much the buildup will plug it right up and wont allow your PCV valve to vent gasses from the crankcase,it is as thick as grease and no one can tell me that air is still being drawn through that substance,NO WAY
