Message: I'm glad to hear success stories about the 2000 Dakota's because my girlfriends has been a "lemon" since day one.
I had the front rotors turned 3 times before I replaced them, put new shocks all the way around, new fan clutch, new upper and lower b-joints, plugs, etc..... The list is a lot longer but that's a good sampling.
I am curious as to if anyone has had a problem with the truck surging. It does this with or without the cruise set and seems to make no difference if it is in gear or in park. As I am writing this I just pulled a PO720 code{output speed sensor} which sounds like the list will be larger tomorrow.
2000 Dakota extended cab,4.7,auto,4x4
Thanks everyone!

Message: Hi,
In regards to the surge problem that you are having with your Dakota. I was having the same problem with my 2000 V8 Dakota. I bought it used and it spent almost a month in the garage before they found the problem. I had a computer that was manufactured for a standard installed in my automatic. That created the surge, screwed up my cruise control and other features. The garage couldn't believe it. They replaced it under warranty and it has been an excellent play toy ever since.
