Popping noise seems to happen after you come to a stop. Sounds like its coming from the brake drums only does it once or twice. Brake drums heating up and expanding? Any ideas?

Mine does something similar. I hear it from the rear of the truck as I apply the brake, I only hear one pop each time.

Andrew what year is your Dakota and how many miles are on it? I have a 2001 Quad Cab with approx. 2100 miles. I guess I must talk to the dealer.

I own a 2000 dakota and at about 34000 miles the same popping noise happend to my truck. The dealer told it was fine and I should use the parking more offten. He said it would free it up. It stopped till after my warranty was up(i think he sprayed it) then started up again. Let me know if you have figured a why to correct it.
Thanks Red

I just took my 98 Dodge Dakota 4x4 to Les Schwab for the same clunk or pop. It does it usually when I'm coming to a stop. Les Schwab said that the ball joints look fine, but the upper right control arm bushing is worn and needs to be replaced. They are going to replace both of them. I'll let you know if this cures the problem.

its your anti lock brakes. They do that when you stop just hard enough to start them a workin. Took us a while to figure that one out but that is what it is. They do that when the system resets itself for the next time you need them. some times too it might be you stopped faster then the transmission could down shift and the tranny is resetting itself to 1st all the way down from 4th iffen yall got a automatic.
