Message: $250...? That`s cheap...paintless dent repair , or your insurance deductable?
One thing to point out , the main reason the paint on these vehicles "peel" or "delaminate" from the primer coat is due to UV rays. If your truck is out of the sun for the majority of the time , it will probably be O.K. ...ie. garage kept , and/or parked in the shade at work.
Again , not all of them did it , and there were some that will (or did) peel , no matter how good of care was given to it.

Message: Paintguy- I used the paintless dent repair guys. we had a hail storm last march that left 14 golf ball sized dents in my roof and hood. those guys did an awsum job... can't tell anything was ever done to my Dak! will definately use them again in the future. I use Zymal products, a little pricey but does an excellant job,and easy to work with.

I`ve seen some pretty sad attempts , but hey they have to start somewhere...just not on one of my vehicles :)

Message: We own a 1997 silver Dodge Dakota - paint peeling off down to the primer on the cab roof for the last year. DaimlerChrysler is trying to tell me that I painted it to match the campershell I put on and that's why it's peeling. They obviously look for any excuse to deny responsibility for their products. The paint should not be peeling - no matter what any of the other postings claim. There are thousands of old cars on the road that don't have peeling paint. There is so obviously a problem, and the hundreds and hundreds of postings on the Internet attest to that.

Message: I have seen a few vehicles where the paint peels off and I saw one going through one of those automatic car washes with the rotating brushes, and where the brushes hit the car is where the paint was peeling, so I bet that if you go through one of those often it probably strips the paint off. I have a 98 Dakota Flame Red and the paint job still looks brand new I just hand wash it every 2 weeks and wax 3 times a year.

Message: So every vehicle that goes through an automatic car wash on a regular basis should have peeling paint? I don't think so. It's that kind of logic that Daimler Chrysler keeps trying to foist on the poor owners that are having this problem. Hate to say it, but it just doesn't wash............

Message: I have a 1992 dakota, electric blue. I bought brand new,in 3 years the paint had peeled off hood and roof, I live in PA. I hand waxed the truck 3-4 times ayear and hand washed once a week, just like all my other vehicles. Chrysler dealer admitted there was a problem and would repaint the hood and roof split 50/50, and my share would be $500 then the rest started peeling, I got the whole truck painted at a fly-by-night for $400 and it lasted till now. dodge had a problem and it don't matter how you took care of it, but good luck getting help!

We called the manufacture about our White 1997 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 4x4's paint peeling, and we were told there had been no complaints about paint bubbling up, and peeling off! The dealership also offered to paint 50/50. I told them NO! And that I would get a list of people to complain. They told me if more people complained they would have a recall! So here I am send me your complaint, address, and phone number. And maybe we can get something done together! Send it to: wright0057@charter.net. Hey it's worth a try. I have had 3 dealerships have to buy back my auto’s, because of problems. I am very persistant!!! Lynn

Exactly what veh. should be perfect , and how long should it be expected to last?

I take you are either a daddies boy who never had to earn anything in life so all your possessions have no value to you or you are just a moron who's talking out his ass.

Message: Nope , no daddies boy here , never had anything given to me , that`s why I`m a realist.
Lets see here the veh. in question is a `97 model
, the `03 model year is almost over so that would make yours going on 8 yrs. old.
The factory paint warranty was 3 yrs. on paint and maybe 5yrs. on rust.
That means you got almost 3 times the life out of the paint than the warr. covered...and NOW you don`t feel a 50/50 split is`nt fair...what a jackass you must be!
BTW I`m sure your "original" paint still looks brand new on that POS mustank...
paint jobs before base/clear always looked like crap anyway.
Go whine about something that matters.

Message: Actually... the paint on my '99 Dakota is delaminating as well (Deep Amethyst is the color...)
This all started about 2 years ago and the Dealer fixed the hood, roof, and tailgate for me... however since then the rear quarterpanels, door pillars and rear cab pillar are now starting to delaminate as well.
It's a shame that my "bluish purple" truck is now turning "white" right before my eyes. To me, this is definitely a DEFECT in the paint and not just normal "wear and tear"...
BTW... my "other" car is a '96 Ford Thunderbird... and the paint on it has NEVER faded. Both of my vehicles get Ziebarted w/ the "Paint Shield" protection to block the UV rays... but that hasn't helped my Dak all that much.
Hopefully Dodge will do a recall on this...especially if enough people complain.

I'm sure the dealer don't wanna eat that... as a matter of fact, I'm probably gonna be callin' them tomorrow since they were SUPPOSED to get back with me last week (but my phone never rang about it and they didn't leave any messages... go figure. )

Message: DarkFury - my Dakota is a 97, and just the cab roof has peeled. The paint is silver. Only the cab roof is getting painted. There is a huge amount of information on the 'net about other individuals who have been successful in getting their local dealer to work with the regional rep from chrysler and get their vehicle repainted, either free or with some kind of deductible. I think it helps to be persistent and polite. I wish you luck.

But yeah, I've been polite and kept my rantin' to a minimum... trying to catch those flies with honey versus vinegar...
But I did give him a taste of the vinegar... as in askin him if he would give me FULL TRADE VALUE for my truck on another vehicle, when and if the need arises.
Yeah... I think the LAST thing they want on their lot is a faded out '99 Dak just sittin there (although it probably would be worth more for parts than it is as a whole truck anyways. Hmmmm....)
Either way, I'm still gonna play the "nice" angle and see how far it gets me. :)
