Subject: Peeling bumper paint...HELP Please!! IP: Logged
Message: I know that this has come up before, but my bumper has developed a case of lepersy. The paint will peel with a fingernail. I had it repainted once under warranty, because the service manager told me that he had seen it before. Now I am in Cali and the A$$hole guy I talked to said that it was sand damage. The only comeback that I had was that my truck has never seen sand....EVER!!! I also said that if it was sand damage, why wouldn't the hood go to $hit and the lower valance as well...He still wouldn't budge....My truck is way to nice to have that crappy bumper...thought about replacing it or having it chromed..Any suggestions??

Message: I had the same problem as your having. The dealer wouldn't replace it under warranty saying that it was rock chips! So I called Dodge and they notified the dealer to replace my bumper. Well, the new bumper just ended up peeling too so I finally just had the bumper repainted at a body shop and haven't had any problem since.

Message: The answer to that problem is to take it to a none dealer body shop and have them sand blast it and paint it. There are many good high quality paint products that could be used. Ask the body shop.

Message: I'm with you DakotaMan! Although I do my own work, my '98 black bumper has been repainted every spring as a result of the poor quality factory paint job. This year I blasted, primed, and painted, and it looks like I've finally nailed it.
I plan to paint it the flame red body color in the spring, so it only has to last till then.

Message: All gen III Daks have that problem. The only way to fix it is to take it down to bare metal and have a pro (or pro tools and time) do it the right way.

Message: I have had 2 replaced each a year old. My 3rd so far 2 years no problem. I'd go back to the dealer. If they replaced it once they should replace it again.
