Message: Here are the fixes to this problem, from experience.
1) Use the brakes like squeezing a tennis ball, letting off right before you stop, then applying enough to stop in time. In other words don't hammer the brakes all the time.
2) Use only one heavy duty part. Either the rotors or pads, not both. HD rotors will not stand up to HD pads.
3) Torque wheel nuts carefully to specs, in sequence.
4) Anticipate stops when possible, and don't tailgate, which causes overuse of brakes.
Hope this helps.

Message: 2002, 4x2, 40k miles => This past weekend I changed out the warped factory roters for new aftermarket ones. I noticed severe "pitting" on the surface. On closer examination, it looked like flaws in the metal rather than corrosion. The guy at the "brake and equipment" shop said "ya, they make the cheap ones like that" . . .

Message: I agree with ChooChoo, one thing to remember is that after you drive a vehicle with disc brakes for a while anytime you apply the brakes med to hard the brake pads and rotor heat up to or close to about 1000 deg's and in stop and go traffic that's a lot of heat that will warp the rotors very easy, also if your towing something and use the brakes.

Message: My brake rotors warped enough that they had to be turned at around 25k miles. My dealership charged me for this service. Excusse me, Dodge, but shouldn't BRAKES be designed to WORK in everyday road conditions!?! Stop and go traffic is an everyday occurence in this world. I had not even towed anything with it yet, and it was ordered with the Tow Package. I have since replaced with aftermarket rotors and pads that DO WORK.

Message: I bought some aftermarket "Power Slot" rotors and brake pads and have had absolutely no brake troubles for the past 30k miles. Just a thought. Would like to see the Tech Bulletin though.

Message: I have an 01 Quad cab and as soon as I needed to change my rotors which was at about 65,000 miles I switched to power slot rotors and Hawk brake pads (both heavy duty parts). Why shouldn't people use both HD rotors and HDpads. Both parts disipate heat better. I havn't run into any problems. You can use HD with stock but I would think it would be worse.

Message: I too had a big problem with warping rotors. About 10,000 miles ago i bought cross drilled/ slotted rotors and performance pads for my 99 V-6 2WD Dakota. I drive the truck rather hard and havnt had a problem since. Even though the rotors and pads cost me around $180 I am very very satisfied with them as they are wearing very well. They still look practically brand new. I would suggest this mod for anyone who gets sick and tired of those damn warped rotors. I know ill never go back to oem.
