I am having problems with the auto door locks on my 2000 dakota slt. The problem is that the doors will lock and the key is still in the switch. The first time it happened I was washing the truck in the driveway and thought I had bumped the lock. I went in the house, got the extra key and unlocked it. The second time I was 100 miles from home, 6AM unloading my boat and the engine is running, lights on, etc. Had to break out a glass. Again I thought I may have bumped the latch. I have been really careful about the latches ever since having to break the glass and it happened again last week. Anybody else having this problem or know of a simple solution (other than selling the truck)?

i have had that problem with my 97 slt definetly a pain!! Now i have one of those magnet hide akey hidden on the truck. I noticed that i happens when you go through the pasenger side door and start it from there and the shut the door it leave it lock and your sh*t out of luck. When you do this from the driver side it leave the door unlocked i think. try it, see what you find, a spare key hidden maybe you best bet, unless you can find someone who nows how to disinable this stupid "feature". you can get the hide a key at your local parts store. i have mine in the bed behind the hooks, this way it won't fall off and can easily be found.

If the doors are programed to autolock they will do it. You can change that option by following the instructions in the owners manual.

If the vehichle is running you can in fact lock the doors with the power door lock switch. Also if it is not running and you hit the passenger door lock switch the doors will lock. The feature to keep you from locking the doors with the key in the ignition only works on the drivers door.

This has never happened to me.. but next time I'd say leave the window down just incase.. I used to have a problem at a oil lube place I went to that would lock my keys in my truck. So the easiest way to fix that was to roll down the window. ;-)

I had this problem on my 2001 dakota when it was new. The Dealership replaced the computer for the doorlocks and also had to get a new chip from the factory to burn the country of origin and something else into it to get the door locks working properly again.

Since that time I went out and had a regular key cut and put it in my bilfold. This key won't let the engine start and run but will unlock the door.

The doors would lock by themselves with the key in the ignition engine running or not (drivers door included). They would also lock with the key out of the ignition. The locking of the doors would happen when ever the computer decided to lock them. As time went on they locked more freequently.

Tank,
If you are getting a hum/buzz sound it's the latch/actuator assembly. Only fix is to replace it....not hard to do....sooner or later it will quit....something to plan for. Danny

I have also had problems with the acctuators. First the passenger lock and now the drivers. I have a friend who also has this problem. I was quoted $230 for each door. Seems that this is a manufactures problem and should be subject to a recall. I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if so what the were told by their dealer?

My 2001 Dakota Quad driver's side door lock (powered) stopped working a couple of days ago. It works fine manually, but won't lock/unlock with my keyless. All the other doors are fine. Has anyone fixed this before? Do I have to take my door apart? Advice would be appreciated.

My 2000 sounds like you are killing a cat when you unlock it. Dealer says I need a whole new assembly inside the door. 6 screws, and 3 connections to change-?!?!? Is is worth doing it yourself?

I have a 2000 dodge dakota quad cab and so far had to replace two lock. The first was under warrenty the second I replaced myself. Now another lock is making the buzzing noise and at times I am unable to unlock the door at all. This makis 3 out of 4 bad locks and I am sure the fourth is just a matter of time. There should be a recall on these junky locks.

I just had my passanger lock changed last week. Does anyone know what the Book time is to replace the door lock? I was also charged $48.00 to Diagnos the problem!!! It doesn't take a guiness to know the lock is bad. I am fighting with the Dealership about this. They say it took 6/10 of an hour to determine that the lock was bad. Any help would be appreciated.

You got screwed. I'm not a mechanic, but even I replaced the lock in my 2000 quad cab in about an hour. Dodge does a great job color coding all of the connections so even the dumbest person can easily install it. The part with taxes in Omaha was ~74.00. The most useful tool was a flashlight. The door panel is the most complicated part of the process. I couldn't get the wire on the autolocks off. I had to balance the panel on a step ladder to complete the job- BIG DEAL. My advice- suck it up-buy the part and do it yourself! Good Luck!

What part do I buy to replace the lock? If I ask for a "latch/actuator assembly", will the dealer know what I mean?

My 2000 CC has the buzzing lock problem on the passenger side. If it's something I can change myself, I'll do it that way.

Thanks.

Hello RossT,
It sounds like I am having the same problem as you. My rear door (drivers side) stopped working with keyless remote and automatic button. A few days later, the front door (drivers side) went out too. The other doors are fine. Did you ever get your problem fixed? If so, may I ask how?

Thanks!
