Message: First, get thee a lifetime alignment plan form Firestone. Then replace the damn, expensive Mopars with the greasable kind from any good parts house. They'll fail too, but it will cost less than the arms and ball joints the dealer will sell you.
After 500,000 miles I've concluded the design is bad. Maybe why the new Dakotas dont use the same suspension.

Message: Avoid Firestone like the PLAGUE!
THey are the worst car care facilities on the planet. I have 2 consumer complaints and one active lawsuit against them.
Firestone is a rip off joint.

Message: texdodge,
Your blanket statement isn't entirely applicable. After the huge Sears litigation, all shops should behave themselves.
The service writers job is to sell services. Our job, as consumers, is to intellegently chose.
As to the actual work, the grease monkeys are supposed to be licensed and competant.
The new alignment machines are step by step. Any of us could follow the directions and do the alignment.
In any case, Firestone isn't the only place. I was talking about the basic concept of warranties and lifetime services, which are great if you can take advantage of them.

Message: This is funny...I spent about an hour reading this thread. I have a 2000 Dakota with 120K and just had my uppers and lowers replaced. The dealer warranty/recalled the uppers and I paid for the lowers. I didnt even know there was a recall, I had my Dak in cuz my engine light came on, and they happened to check it out and told me about it. So I said, while your in there may as well do the lowers. The lowers cost me $489. Man, it sure is tight up there now, I didnt realize how sloppy it was till I had them all replaced :D

Message: I've had the uppers replaced twice...once under warranty because they were bad (had the lowers replaced at the same time) and once again when the "recall" came through.
You're right, it tightened up the suspension very nicely.
However, it's back to feeling like it's wobbling all over. No more warranty, and no more recall.
Can you still get the greasable aftermarket balljoints? anyone remember the make/model #s?
