ON THE 2000 MODEL YEAR DODGE DAKOTA'S & DURANGO'S WITH 4WD THE FRONT AXLE PINION NOSE BRACKET BOLTS MAY LOSEN AFTER EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. LOOSE PINION NOSE BRACKET BOLTS CAN CAUSE THE LEFT & RIGHT AXLE ATTACHING BRACKETS TO BREAK OFF, LEAVING THE AXLE SUPPORTED ONLY BY THE AXLE SHAFTS. THIS MAY ALSO CAUSE FRONT AXLE &/OR PROPELLER SHAFT DAMAGE.(TAKEN FROM MAILER RECEIVED FROM DAIMLER CHRYSLER ADVISING TO MAKE APPOINTMENT & BRING VEHICAL IN FOR SERVICE) SERVICE WAS PERFORMED ON MY 2000 DAKOTA CLUB CAB 4WD ON 02/16/01 FREE OF CHARGE WARRENTY WORK.

You just got that done. When did you receive the recall notice? That recall was done on my truck in like july last yr. You may need to talk to someone about getting recall notices sooner if you just got the notice.

As far as I know its for the 2000 4x4.

Mine just broke the front axle yesterday. its at the dealer now. The recall was supposedly done on it but it broke the whole thuing off.

anyone have a copy of the letter form Dodge about the pinion bolts. If so please le t me know and I woudl appreciate getting a copy. Will pay for mailing or your time to scan and send

can anyone tell me if this would have been the cause of my front axle housing cracks? I have a 2000 quad cab and the front housing has alot of hairline cracks and the axle on the passenger side is slid out about 3/4"......the dealer doesn't want to cover it under the warranty!
