Message: I bought a 2000 DQC 4x4 bout this time last year with 70,000 miles and the extended warranty($1500).It has 90,000 miles now and I have'nt driven it in 3 months when the dealership told me that it has a hole in the piston and that it would cost me $5,800 to fix. When they contacted the warranty company (who never sent anyone to look at it) of course they said they would not cover it.Now I have a lawsuit against them and who knows when I'll ever see that truck again and to top it off I have the same problems everyone else is having with the ball joints wearing and door locks making funny noises not to mention the driver side window is the only one that goes down. Thanks Dodge

Message: I have a 2000 DQC - so far I've had all 4 locks replaced, 5 window motors replaced, the gasket between the door keeps slipping, and the a/c drips in the exhaust pipe - sounds like a mig welder under there. Anyone else having any problems with the a/c?

Message: Well, I don't know how to fix it, but I asked the dealership about it right after I bought the truck...they said that it was normal(of course), so I told them that if I got a hole in the exhaust cause of this they were replacing it. I know for a fact that on the '98 dakotas, the a/c drips down the inside of the passenger fender. Why they couldn't do the same to the '00 dakotas is anyone's guess.

Message: Hello everyone. I have an 2000 DQC with 60K. The sway bar bushings are shot, the ball joints and the driver side read door lock is all "F'd" up and makes a god aweful noise. So, all of these things are common to most of these trucks. Someone needs to seriously persue getting the company to take action.

Message: Hi, I have a 2001 dodge dakota quad 4*4. The steering gear and shocks needs to be replaced which will cost me 907.83 as my mileage is 65,812. There is also a problem with the frame that they will cover but not sure yet what the problem is.

Message: I have the same issue with the driver's rear door lock. I was out of warrenty within 2 years of purchase. Had to have brakes replaced 3 times, too much voltage through the fuel pump, leaf springs that sqawked like mad, and a groos evaporative leak that NO ONE can find. Recall...would love to see someone nail dodge to the wall on these issues.

Message: Going in for the fifth door lock actuator replacement tomorrow. I was told that this is not a commom problem on Dodges. I can see here that that is a false statement. The locks are only warranteed for 1 year or 12,000 miles and cost over 150. If the noise was not so horrendous I would not replace them. This sounds like a recall item to me......Also I had to replace my A/C to the tune of 1200.00 this also sounds like a common problem. Does anyone know any similar more info about what is causing a/c failures and leaks?

Message: well we might have you all beat. we rebuilt the transmisson (automatic), replaced fuel pump/regulater, door speaker, lock actuator, replaced both heads because of a broken valve spring and bent the valve, come to find out both heads had cracks, brake rotors 3 times do to warping, ball joints will be the next issue I am sure. and all this on a 2000 dakota. I have less problems on my 15 year old vehicle with over 300 thousand miles on her.

Message: LOL Guess that's what we get for buying the first model year of a new rig! I refuse to replace the fuel regulator...I will deal with the flucuation of the gas gauge. As for the gross evaporative leak, I do believe I have found it. It's in the neck of the tank between the fill opening and the tank. I'll just keep on praying that the engine stays in one piece!

Message: Really wish I only had 50K on mine. I've got the '00 4.7 w/automatic and I'm at 115K. I've replaced the fan clutch, thermostat, turn signal/wipers/brights assembly (God was good to me on that one, I got it for free!), brakes 3x all around, the seat issues, and now with the gross evap. leak and the fuel gauge flucuation, I have to play games to pass emissions. Oh well. It's my baby truck and I'm keeping her!

Message: I'm Having some trouble with my lights. i think i have a short somewhere but when i flash my brights around 5times i will lose all the lights on the truck, interior and exterior. Pretty scary when driving through the mountains at night. also had my door lock replaced and power window motor replaced. my rotors have been fine, but now looking at the t-case due to a leak. I'm really worried now with all that i have been reading, this is the 3rd dakota ive owned, my 97 had the whole front end replaced, my 94 had a major problem overheating. my 2000 quadcab hasnt had that many other than what i listed. When i start rebuilding my t-case will post if i see anything wrong in there. I have 80,000m now and keep my truck maintained well. Oh i am also having some trouble with stalling/very bad idle every now and again. I also think something is going in the front end now. Oh well i still love my truck and plan to continue to work on it and mod it. This is a great thread. Rebuilding t-case in about 1-2weeks

Message: MightyQ,
Seriously take a look at the turn signal, etc switch. That is exactly what happened to us. We were driving in the mountains, and hubby went to switch from brights to dims and we lost all lights. It happened a number of times, and so we talked to my father, a retired mechanic. We were at the shop a man rents from him, and the mechanic actually had the switch there. He had ordered it for another pickup and the pickup owner decided he didn't want it. I got it for free.
Hope you can resolve the issue. I'm like you, I'm keeping the Dakota, trouble or not.

WHATS UP WITH ALL THESE BUSTED UP DAKOTAS ?
I have had my 01 2wd 4.7 Quad cab for 3 years. It now has 71,000 miles and I just replaced the front pads for the 1st time. Used white ceramic to reduce brake dust. Original rotors are great...had em turned ... always smooth pedal. About to put some new brake shoes on the back. Put a series 70 flowmaster with duals and a custom bent stainless tube with a K & N. Gets 18.5 mpg combined hwy and city. Mobil I 20-50 goes 7000 miles between changes and doesn't lose a DROP between changes.
Quit tearing your stuff up !

Message: Common misconception: repairs from a Chrysler dealership are warranted only 12 mos and 12000 miles.
Correct information: Parts AND labor coverage on most repairs is 12 mos and 12000 miles. Part coverage is 12 mos and unlimited mileage.
After 12000 miles, you will have to pay the labor, but within 12 mos, the part is covered under Mopar part warranty. The 12 mos and unlimited mileage warranty is the same as you would get if you purchased the part over the counter at the parts department.
And for the love of Pete, keep your damned receipts. If a warranty is important to you, then keeping a file is not a big hassle.
