on it? or does it blow the fuse when you start the truck while in reverse?

Message: Yes, I did put an aftermarket plug-in wiring harness on it. I brought the truck to the dealership today (for two additional problems) and they didn't see anything wrong with it. The new fuse hasn't blown yet. I might remove the wiring harness and see if that solves the problem.

Message: But do you blow the fuse when the trailer is hooked up?Or only when the trailer is hooked up.
Some aftermarket plugin harnesses do not allow for a good gnd connection through the trailer.
when trailer is hooked up.it will only use gnd
through coupler.Mine was blowing fuses when I would back up with trailer connected.

Message: It's blowing them without a trailer hooked up. I only hauled once so far, and I found the problem a few months after that.

Message: The panel on drivers side instrument panel. Pop the cover off and there is a diagram showing which fuse it is (should be a blue 15amp fuse)

Message: I had trouble with trailer lights. The dealer had no solution. After reading the instructions on the trailer harness "again" I noticed that a white ground wire that was part of an extension wire must be grounded to the frame weather uou need the length or not. Once the extension piece was installed and grounded,I never had any more trouble

Message: Warren, it sounds like your reverse switch for the tranny might have gone bad and is stuck causing the lgihts to come on.

Message: I have a 2002 Dakato and also installed one of those trailer light plug in kits from Hoppy. This kit comes from the manufaturer with the wire you think is the ground but is actually hooked to the backup lights. Put a voltmeter on it and tested the wiring system. Notified the manufacturer and they said they had many requests for this type of setup. If your ground wire on the truck side of the harness is blue, it's not a ground. You will have to cut it and make it one.
Seal the other end so moisture won't get in.

Message: I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota 4x4. I have the new circular aftermarket plug for my trailor lights. I have bought 2 of them because I thought the first one was bad. I have hazard/tail lights on the left side and no tail light at all on the right. I have a right side running light that works though. Today I checked and the bulb was blown on the right rear. I replaced it and still no light. The keys were not even in the ignition, nor were any lights on in dash of truck and the left side lights stayed on. What is going on with this possessed wiring system?
