Message: My 2001 5.9 Q-cab is doing the same thing with the engine light on. We have changed the trans. fluid and filter....didn't work. Still have to rev to 5000 RPMs for it to shift into 2nd. What is the TV-cable and where is it. Our next thing is the speed sensor. Any other suggestions. Nice to know we're not alone out here in Oklahoma. Thanks, Karla

Message: My 02 Quad cab 4X4 has had a shifting problem for the last year I have been trying to troubleshoot. Usually at highway speeds for a long period (5-6 hours) the engine light will come on and I notice the RPM's have risen from 2100 to about 2800 and it seem the transmission will not stay in overdrive. If I slow to a stop and accel. the trans seems as though it is stuck in second or third gear. Initial high rpm to get truck moving. (sound like trans is slipping) Had codes checked by a friend with DRBII. Can't remember the code but he said it was a pressure sensor open or shorted to ground. I first changed both trans input and out put speed sensors with new Mopar sensors. Got the same symptoms the next long road trip. Then changed the LP (line pressure) Sensor on the other side of trans.
Still getting the same symptoms. These are the only sensors feeding info to PCM to control shifting. I changed the trans fluid and both filters at 50,000 miles. Currently at 77,000 mile. I don't want to spend the big bucks for PCM control module unless I know this is going to fix problem.
Anyone esle had this problem and what was the fix?

Message: 99 Dodge Dakota Sport 2WD 3.9 V6 82000mi :
Just thought I'd add to the post as another person with tranny problems. shifting from 1st to second is the main problem. It just doesn't want to engage and also seems to be trying to shift to soon (around 10 mph). I took it to a tranny shop and he adjusted the kickdown cable. That helped for all of 2 days. Now it also seems as thought the clutch is slipping or something, or possibly it is stuck in second gear when I first leave my cold parking stall here at college. It lacks power when it does this. I also have the problem where the tranny will shift all the way to passing gear when hitting an incline while in cruise control instead of just dropping to direct gear. My plans for my spring break include: replacing speed sensor, changing fluid and filter, and adding some of this transX stuff everyone is talking about. I might try a little more adjusting on the kickdown cable too. That is the same thing as the TV cable some of you guys have talked about, right? I'm really getting frustrated with this truck as it has turned into an lemon in about the past 5000 miles. I'm also having problems with a possible bad intake gasket. I have a horrible "pinging" in acceleration, bad gas milage and loss of power. I'm not losing oil or coolant though. I have read something about wrong spark plug cable routing causing this kind of thing too. Really weird if you ask me, but im gunna look into it. I think I have a rear wheel bearing going too. This is a rough spot for a college student to be in. Its probably gunna end up costing a lot to get everything going again. I'd almost rather buy another truck, but thats expensive too, and no one is gunna want to buy a broken truck.
If anyone has any other ideas or advice for me let me know at davedottnet@yahoo.com
