I have receantly purchased the Dodge Motorsports Edition Dakota and have had no problems with it so far. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything, good or bad, about this truck. I'm afraid that a high strung engine like this might have some nasty problems.

The only differences between the MOTORSPORTS
edition and any other DAKOTA (except R/T) is purely cosmetic ALL mechanicals are the same

I have had the motorsports edition for 9 months and have had no problems. There are a few differences from a standard dakota other than cosmetics. Heavy duty alternator, front and rear sway bars, much better tires, 245hp,(5 hp less than R/T). It may not be as fast as R/T but is much more comfortable with every interior option standard other than leather. There are only 2 of these in Oklahoma City and it always draws attention. Again, though, it will not run with an R/T.

Its just cosmetic,bigger alt came with towing package,sway bars came with tire and handling package and a 4.7 5speed can hang and beat a r/t

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota and have experienced a problem with the windows/wipers, and locks not working after start up. I shut the truck off, re-start and everything works fine. It has happened 3 or 4 times ???

i've had my motorsports for a year the only thing i had replaced was the cruise control. ran the 1/4 mile 4 times all of them were 15.6 sec.
FIPK and a ARE hard cover only mods. if i take off the cover it should run 15 flat.

I've had my Dakota Motorsports Edition for almost a year...no problems...I beat thr R/T...
I installed performance exhausts and cold air induction. All else is factory....and I can't get the 120mph cut-off to by-pass...any help there?

I have a friend that has the motorsports edition and I couldn't find anything on it that was diferent than what was normally made for that year. Maybe it does have a heavy duty alternator, but as far as suspension and what I could tell from the engine, it was all the same.
Wouldn't want any other!

I found headers from Gipson...any feedback?
The 4.7 is a tight fit, so I want to be sure there are no surprises fitting the headers!
My '97 Dakota took the Mopar headers with minimal adjustments...the upper 'A' frame bushings wore out too fast, though, with all of the heat from the headers. I replaced them @ 195,000 miles.
I hope the 2001 Motorsports will last a little longer...

I have a 2001 Motorsports edition too and i love it, people always comment on it jus the other day someone was lookin at it when i came out of the store and asked if it was my truck and he says it's sweet, awesoem looking ride. the only thing that sucks is it's only got a 3.9 but will still light up the tires. does anyone know the horse power of the 3.9 reg dakota that year is 175 i hear this is problay the same?

I have had my Motorsports edition since new the only thing wrong is the cruise control doesn't work but I just found that out and now its not under warrenty. I installed Flowmaster duel catback exhoust and Airaid cold air intake. Its goverend at 115 wich is a major bite does anyone know how to get around that. I love my truck even after almost 4 years I still love going out and seeing it in my driveway every day.

i have had no problems w/ my motorsports edition, i always turn heads w/ a sniper grill and a tilt because of the tires in the back come up to my waste. i also have perfomace parts that put me up around 270-285 hp but im no really sure. are there any tricks to get more hp?

Sure...supercharge the crap out of it! LOL...No tricks, just a v8 in a light weight truck. My red sc turns heads everyday. I have so much fun in it. I toy with the mustang GT, and the cobra toys with me! lol

The tires on my truck need replacing. I would like to replace with origional goodyear eagle #1 tires but I am having trouble locating some. are there any wrecked motorsports with a good fullsize spare available? I could use 4.

Sorry man,
There are no Goodyear RGL's any where that I have seen since Laremie tire Co. in Houston, Texas sold out. I took mine off and saved them for show. I drive a black wall Kumo 270-55r-16 racing tire. It is softer rubber and holds the curves better....just fyI...

My motorsport Edition has 300 hp and 400+ torque at the fly wheel with 267hp and 413 torque at the back tire with dyno tested at 155 mph. Personally I have had the truck running at 137ish and loved it with the feel of more horses still up my sleeve. All ive done to it is put a cold air intake 1200cfm 77mm throtle body i believe a Jet 2 Stage 2 chip, a Airaid spacer, performance exhaust and the little thing that I LOVE Electronic Cutouts. Was next to a cobra at the beach with girls al over. I had my exhuast shut and reved my engine. The cobra guy looked over and laughed. Of course we were in bad traffic so nowhere to go. I reved it again and his buddy convinced him to rev his. Didnt sound too bad at all. The girl in front of us were looking for sure and perfect timing too. I opened my cutouts and let out one hellacious of a sound. All the girls heads turned towards my truck and giggled at the cobra. He asked what I was running and all I said "Well its not street legal", and then spun out and away from him. I still have my goodyears and not on the truck but decent enough tread to put them on at a show or something. Might sell for the right price. kjj@tmail.com

Kool, Khris...At about 130, I get a little squeemish at the
float these light weight trucks have. I still have my RGL's
too.I put 'em on when I trailer my R/C red truck to shows.

You state 400+ at the fly wheel, but more at the RW? LOL
How do you know you're going 137ish?
Without a tuner that will get rid of the speed limiter?
Your other mods don't add squat. A spacer, and a Jet 2 chip. Which exhaust?- True duals?
