Message: Could it be that the O2 sensors are going bad and thus producing an incorrect message to the engine causing it to run rich or whatever, than clogging the Cat? I'm very curious about this cause I just aquired a 99 Ram 1500 5.2L that was diagnosed by the dudes at Autozone with thier reader as having " catylic emisions incorrect" I don't want to wreck my converter if all I have to do is replace the Sensors! The truck does jerk a bit when shifting, feels like the engine is a little rough. But It's hard for me to tell. I'm upgrading from an Isuzu mini truck!!! Great truck ! Rusted out from under me from my surfing and diving excursions but the never had a problem with it in 165000 miles. Anyway, Is there any help out there in finding the correct O2 sensor to replace mine with?? I'm skiddish about putting in your jo blo sensor in it for fear my mileage might get even worse. Tips anyone?

Message: I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. I need my converter changed out for the 3rd time, exept this time it's over the 80k mile warranty. I e-mailed customer service twice and they denied me getting another one put on. I don't know what you allow on this site, but I just want to say F*** a Dodge Dakota. I would have probably considered buying another one, since that is really the only problem I've had with it,but I think I'll get me a Toyota or something.

Message: My 98 R/T only has 47k on it but the cat rattles when I come off idle. I don't notice it when the engine is running at speed (1800+ rpm) - any chance a Dodge dealership would conisder changing the cat on this thing??? If I get under the truck and shake the cat it rattles like crazy. It's kind of embarrasing accelerating from a stoplight.
I guess since my '98 does not have a second O2 sensor, I can cut the cat out and put in a straight pipe but I'd rather have the cat on it.
Thanks.

Message: I too have had the same problem with my 98 Ram 1500 3.9 V6. I am on my third or fourth cat now at about 82,000 miles. First one replaced by dealer. Second one cost me. I will not buy another dodge truck. I think the company has been very irresponsible and negligent by not fixing this problem. Oh yeah, the O2 sensor usually gets melted into the cat when it goes out, so you have to buy one of those as well.
