I decided to remove the 1.5 DIN and install a single DIN, purchased a kit ('99 DAK) but....the kit only includes faceplate in order to downsize the opening in the dash...what do I do about the excessive room behind the dash in which 1.5 DIN fit snug in. The single DIN floats around, are there kits that solve this problem ??

There are kits that have support arms that extend back and support braces that you screw the sides of the headunit to. I have a metra 99-6501 and it's great. If you do it well, what you have should work ok. By bending the tabs on the metal sleeve, your HU will be supported.
