Subject: Audio Help: What next? IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone,
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota. I replaced the speakers with pioneer speakers (can't remember the model number, they were talked about on here a decent amount) and replaced the radio with the DIN size pioneer CD player that is also mentioned on here frequently.
Anyway, it sounds great, but I run into problems at times with the quality of the bass. I listen to mostly death metal, so I don't neccessarily want the loud booming bass, but I want to feel it for sure. I don't know how to describe what it's doing, maybe flattening out, or getting garbled, when I have the volume up pretty loud. What should I do to get a better base sound? Is there a setting on the receiver? should I add an amp? add a subwoofer? Not looking to spend tons and tons of money
Any ideas?

Message: Sounds like a powered sub would be good for you then. An 6" or an 8" would be fine. You need to put some crossovers on your door speakers to keep the bass out of them.

Message: What model pioneer do you have? The higher models have built in x-overs. If you don't have one you might consider putting your mids on a small 4 channel amp. They will sound much clearer and louder and also the amp will have a x-over to keep them from playing too low. You should also look into getting some type of sub setup. Do you have a RC, CC, or QC?

Message: I have a CC....Where could I conceivably put a subwoofer? How much should I plan to spend? I don't need anything over the top, just a goood improvement...

Message: Since you aren't looking for anything real loud I guess a thunderform would work just fine for you.

Message: I agree with BIGTYMER, the thunderform sounds like a good bet for you. you wont loose much if any space and you can get ones that have built in amps, so you dont have to deal with the mounting the amp somewhere. As for 6's and 8's, Im not a big fan unless youre going for a total component system. I'd stick with a single or double 10, they will give you good bass and a nice sound as long as you dont buy crap.

Message: John the first thing you need to do is put your door speakers on a amp. With a amp your system will be louder and cleaner sounding. Also with a amp you can set the high pass crossover to limit the low freq which your speakers can not reproduce. You will hear much cleaner base this way from your speakers. If more is then wanted you will have to ad a sub with a amp powering it. One quality eight puts out plenty. I would put my eight up against most tens and outperform them. The sub and the enclosure must work together for the best sound. You get what you pay for in audio equipment.
