Hey sicminds

I'd suggest it what you want?...want it so loud that it rattle's your teeth out of your head or just enough to hear.

I'd would go with at least 300 watt amp seeing you are going to power 2 subs. I suggest running them in parallel cause you get more power out of the amp.

I'm no sure what OHM the's subs are but make sure if they are 4 OHM's each that your amp can handle a 2 ohm load (4/2=2ohm)

As for making 2 amps run. How many Preamp Outputs do you have on your radio. If you have Front Rear and sub outs just hook it up to the sub out, but if you don;t your gonna need a crossover to push all the right signals to the right speakers.

I'd also take a look at your power and ground wire's I would power 2 amp with anything less than 4 guage wire.

Currently I will be powering 2 10" MTX 6000's for my setup and I'm having 450watts go to the subs (225 watts per sub) cause the amp I'm getting can handle a 450watt output at 2 ohm load.

Shoot me an email or get me on AIM @ bikeman658
if you have any question...

And please guys This post is still open to suggestions.....

Your best bet is to get a Mono Amp

its puts out more power than a 2 channel amp

just have the speakers run on 4 channel amp and run the subs off a mono amp.

Yes, brand does matter. 500 watts from one company will very rarely equal 500 watts from another company.

A mono amp will be the most efficient amp, so go with one of those. Most mono amps are safe to 2 ohms or less.

I suggest the JBL BP300.1. It will put out a good 350 true RMS watts which will be plenty for your subs. Another good brand to look into is US Acoustics. Very underrated power at awesome prices.

I don't mean to sound like an ass or anything, but I once owned two 12" MTX 4000's and they were not what I expected. For the price, they are good though. Just, for some reason, the 6000's hit a lot harder (I currently have the 6000's).

Any chance that you want to try building a box? Let me know if you do. We can build a vented or bandpass box that will get a lot louder, if thats your main expectation.

my system bumps good enough now with just a 4 chanel amp doing all the powering. The thing is, when i turn up the volume my 4 speakers and 2 tweats get very distorted. I was told that was because i was only running one amp for the one setup. I have a 98 reg cab with a custom built box that hits very well for only being 2 10's.

I am curently looking to go to the 6000, i have heard that the 8000's are crap anyways.

thanks again for answering my questions.

Are you crazy the 8000's are the best that MTX has out on the market. Just like the 6000 are better then the 4000, the 8000's are better then the 6000's. What brand amp are you running? I suggest that if you want to run MTX subs that you use an MTX amp.

I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use? Toothpicks?

To clear up a few things....

Mono amps don't necessarily put out more power than stereo. They DO put out more power per amperage draw if they are class D, though.

MTX 8000's subs are a little better than the 6000's, but they are not too great compared to others in their price range. MTX 6000's are a decent price compared to other subs of the same price. For the price of 8000's, you could find many much better subs.

SicMinds - no, you do not need another head unit. You can buy a splitter that accepts a L/R RCA cable, and splits it into two sets - one for each amp. Your amp may have an output already on it.

Your speakers and tweeters are getting distorted probably because they are overpowered. The subs can take the extra power, but they can't. I would hook up the speakers to the front channels and the subs to the rear, then adjust the gains appropriately.

hey Sicminds another suggestion since you only have one set of preouts on your head unit is to get a equalizer. Then you'll have pleany of preouts to run your RCA's to each amp.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!
PEACE!!
