Message: The factory amp gives 15-20 watts rms. I'm not 100% sure but it's more than most cd player less than most "real" amps. There are actually a lot of wires that have to hook to the factory amp for it to operate correctly because it uses high level inputs not low level (RCA) If you bought an aftermarket cd player you should just get a seperate amp. Something in the 25-50 watt per channel range and it will sound much better.

Message: speaking of factory amp, are you guys referring to the infinity amp, or the power straight out of the head unit. or are you saying that there is an amp in non-infinity systems?
i've heard someone say before that they had to bypass the amp on the 2002 sxt (same truck i have) and i was wondering if there really is an amp in the system on that truck (or any besides those with the infinity system)????

Message: we'ra talkin bout the sperate factory infinity amp, and i want to know if i would be better off by-passing it all together, and just hook straight up to the head unit, i did it on my old 87, and the speakers seem to have been louder in that truck than this one, i assume it was because there was more power goin to them, ne way, thank y'all.

Message: Most newer HU's produce anywhere from 15-28 watts RMS. The Alpine 7897, if I got the model # right, puts out the most ever bench tested at 28 per channel.
