I soon hope to be one of these high paid people. I just got my BA in head unit installation technology and I'm going for my masters.

Message: The problem is there is more rumor then truth in the car audio world... let's see a $100 amp that has 500WATTS stamped on the top or a $500 amp that has some small print saying 100watts - gee which one is better? The fool and his $100 wind up with a 10watt amp... opps!
Knowledge IS power. Just ask the guy I toasted in my competition days: his two 15"s & around 500 watts vs my four little 10"s and only 300 watts. They are not dumb... just not in the "know".

Also, the whole point of this forum is to answer questions....If people want to learn how to install their own car audio, thats cool. Just like Joe said, you cant figuire it out unless you ask. If they screw it up, they screw it up...Its a part of learning!

So Im saying its the people like you that think they know what they are doing that give me my job security. And not much of car audio instalaation is done under dashes. WHen you and people like you keep on breaking stuff trying to put in your stereo system, that is when you finally give up and bring it to the professionals. SO KEEP UP THE DESTRUCTION.

The only posts I been seeing lately is "what amp fit my thunderform" or " where can I get a thunderform" or "what size are my speakers" or my favorite "12 in a RC"
personally I stop lookin at this forum cause its the same question OVER & OVER & OVER (at least to me)I can understand questions but if the site has a search..... why ask again? Personally thats why I like this site. If the site has it, use it! If you can't find anything on the subject after search, by all means...ASK!
As for personal installs, I say keep it up! I seen some of those so call good installers and they are just a bunch of hacks!!!! If I blow it up, I know why instead of guessin what bubblegum half-baked "installer" has done! You know you don't need a liscence to install? ANYONE CAN GET A INSTALL JOB! You need one for bodywork and automotive repair but not for installing. Morons that don't know what a philips screwdriver is, can be working at a shop, installing your new price posetion in you nice new vehicle!!! Its complete green smelly dookie industry if you ask me! Everytime I enter my local shop I got to raise my arm to save my watch from all the crap I waid through!
Don't mean to vent or flame but thats the way I see it!

Message: I do agree---any REPUTABLE shop should have their installers certified by MECP. But---I have competed (years ago) in USAC---and always completed my installs myself. Always burned me when some punk was in a competition with a bad a$$ system that daddy bought and a shop installed. Ask him a tech question and he ain't got a clue. You have to admit---a lot of the innovations in sound quality and spl have come from hours of design---trying new things---and doin' it yourself. Not by have car audio shops installing equipment. So I say---if you think you can put in your own stuff---go ahead. But be informed. Research the magazines. Research the websites. Research the forums. Thats what it's here for.

rd, all the installation places in my area have that same egotistical mind set and gauche manners as you do. The real audiophiles are the ones with degrees in physics and engineering. My guess from your posts, is you are some punk kid who does shady-tree installs. Installations just take practice and some common sense. Message: Yea shows what you know anout USAC and IASCA. Most sanctionig bodies have classes so the real inovations in this industry come from the people like me that do this job every day and try to help innovate it and make it better. All I am saying is that when stupid people get on these forums and think they know what they are talking about. Well in your terms Enough Said. And as far as business goes I have built more World Record and Top systems then all of you in here combined. I dont come in here and judge people either if you really want to learn then don't sit in a forum like this and ask people that don't know. Get on a forum like TermPro and really learn something about this industry. These forums only teach you how to HACK. So if you people like shady quality then I say HACK ON. But if you want to learn how to do it right have a pro do it or learn from some people that know what they are talking about.

Message: Well, I only have one thing to say. If someone needs to brag about how good they are at doing something, I don't trust them one bit. I have helped my dad build street rods, but I don't have to tell anyone that I am the best, I'm not. I am a fortunate person to be able to turn a wrench the right way, or wire something without ruining a component. There are some people that either can't do these things, or can't afford to bring it to a highly priced customer installer. You learn by trial and error. Yeah sometimes it may cost you more to get a new component that you just ruined, and by bringing it to a pro you could have saved in the long run, but what would you get out of that. If people want to learn, let them learn. I have had my share of screwups, but you know what, I won't do it again and I learned something. Hats off to all you trying! Keep it up.
We may keep the pro's in business, which is good for the economy, but don't let it get you down if you mess up here and there. Your learning! Learning is a key to your success and your sure enjoyment of accomplishment.

there is nothing wrong with doing your own installs. as long as you know what your doing. i have done 3 different systems in my cars, and now one in my dakota. i have also done 5+ "basic" installs in my friends cars.
just the box in my truck, i built for about $180 CND in wood, fibreglass, and carpeting. i asked my local shop (who i knew quite well) to build one for me. for the same thing they wanted $1000+ just to build the box. I DONT THINK SO!
custom jobs by shops are a rip off!!!!

It takes a wise man to teach others, but any idiot can tell another person that they are the same as himself. You may also think that as automobile technology is advanced that installers must be made more mentally advanced themselves. Real mechanics of any kind know how to fabricate parts, and fix problems. Not simply install ready made kits, and replace parts. Ever tear down the dash of a 1969 Chevelle, and have to reduct all the heating hoses just to change the speaker in the dash?

Message: i got through the first five or six posts and im just getting pissed. I mean, what the hell?! if i want to install my own deck and a few subs, why the heck cant I? does it emotionally hurt you? Ive been working on all parts of cars for years(build ups/basic restoration) and i do my own stereos. I wont build a box, but i do design it, but have someone else build it(a friend of mine). What's wrong with that? Ive talked with a lot of the install guys in my area and there are some smart guys that really know what theyre doing. But they only know more than i do because they know all their product! I know what i have in my hand just as well as they would, and thus, i know how to install/use it! As for the rest of em, they're all idiots! they look like theyre on pot or some crap of the sort.
this post is one of the main reasons why i hate online forums. people get all high and mighty sitting at their computer and suddenly they have the balls to tell the world how they feel. Now you must have had a bad day so you come home and pick fights. You knew what this thread would start, but you did it anyways. to what benifit was this?! There has been only one forum ive ever gone to that wasnt like this. it has moderators and rules that keep everyone in line. THE BEST FORUM IVE EVER SEEN, PERIOD!
