Subject: How to install a new head unit and XM?
IP: Logged

Message:
Help! I want to install a new pioneer head unit, hide a pioneer digital tuner, and mount a terk antenna in my 99 Dodge Durango (to upgrade the stereo and I want to get XM). This site was the closest thing I could find for asking. Please help! How do I get the stock radio out? Where do I hide the tuner? How do I wire an antenna from the outside to the inside?

I would reeeeeeeeeeally appreciate any help. Especially if you email or fax me some documents. That would rock!

Thanks,
Aaron

First of all you should take this install to the professionals. If you Install all of the product yourself the manufacturers will be less likely to offer you tech support and honor waranties.
If you think you have to do it yourself the radio installation is simple. Remove the dash and take out the to 10mm bolts that secure the radio. Know wire the harness for the pioneer head unit to the Dodge harness (You can get this at best buy or circuit city, You will also need a dash kit). Next decide where to hide the XM tuner box. ( Under a seat usually works great) Know run the bus cable from the tuner box to the head unit. Secure the head unit intoo the dash kit and mount in the dash with the same 2 10mm bolts. Put the dash trim back on. Know the more complicated part Find a location to mount the XM antenna (Depends on What style it is, Glass Mount or Roof Mount)Glass mount SUCK and will fall off quickly, they also require power and ground to operate. Roof mounts are the best made currently. Just follow the directions that come with the TERK antenna
GOOD LUCK

How do I install the radio!?
IP: Logged

Message:
OK, I just got a 99' Dakota Club Cab and tried to get the dash panels off to get the factory radio out, and I can't figure out how to get the radio/dash panel off. I got the small panel off under the steering wheel column.(I think I was supposed to take that off), but I can't seem to get the other off. I already have the harness and installation kit, I just gotta figure out how to that dern panel off. If anyone knows, and can give me a pretty good description, that would be great.
THANKS!!!

Ken, I have a 99 cc too. You shouldn't have to remove the panel under the steering wheel. You do need to remove the large piece (cant think of the name now) that covers the instrument cluster, radio and vents. It's held on the main dash with clips. With your steering wheel all the way down (if you have tilt) and the shifter in low (if tranny is auto), grip the edges of the panel with your finger tips and pull outward. I beleive there's about 7 to 9 clips holding it on. It's a tad tricky around the gauges. You'll see what I mean when it comes out. Watch your clips. Some stay in the dash after removal. Just pull them out and re-insatll them on the panel when you're ready to put it back on the dash. You'll see two bolts holding the head unit in the dash. It's those you remove to make the h.u. swap. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks, That did it!! Got the headunit completely in, took about 30-45 mins. It felt like I was going to break the dash apart when I was pulling it out, but it was all ok.

Thanks!!!

I actually already had a Sony mp3 player, i forget the model. I had it in my old car. It sounds sooo much better than that factory unit. It has a 7 band eq which is great.
