i have searched all over the web and this board trying to find tips on flush mounting an aftermarket head unit? i have seen this done with other vehicles, but never seen any pics of it done on a dakota.
i have been researching the topic for quite some time, and am looking to begin ordering parts for my system in mid october, but i like the stock look of a flush mounted receiver. i'm sure that i could cut a piece of ABS plastic to fit, but i'm not sure how to go about that either. anyway, any hints/pics/suggestions/links would be greatly appreciated.

Metra makes a headunit install kit with adjustable depth for the old style dash (2000 and under). The model # is 99-6501. If you have the depth...you can flush mount!

Here's a pic of mine. I can't remember what kit I used I'll try to find out. By the way I have no time to work on this sight but there's an ok pic of my head unit.

tbsaunders, Jim's picture shows the kit that I'm talking about...the only I found that you have different possible depths. He and I both used the flush option. It also has side supports for added strength. Get it at partsexpress.com or sounddomain.com for good prices. Partsexpress was $10, while a local place wanted $18.

does that fit the rounded 2002 dash? and is that the same dash as the 2001?
i found the kit on the metra website, and it looks like just what i was hunting for.
thanks for the links and advice, i think i've found what i need...if it will fit my 2002!

When you do it don't break off all the tabs they say to. I broke off just enough to get it in there. It gives alot more support that way.
