Subject: overheating amp IP: Logged
Message: ok heres my setup...pioneer deh-6300 head unit, (4) earthquake focus se speakers, (2) tweeters installed in the map pockets on a 45 degree angle (pretty much right at your ears) mtx crapform with (2) sony xplod aluminum subs, and a lanzar 800w amp under my seat....now my problem....the amp overheats like a bastard!!! i had to turn the amp gain down to like 25% just to keep the thing running!! i made spacers to raise my seat up (its under the drivers seat) to give it some air, seems to help, but i'd rather put my seat back where it goes, and the spacers creak and make stupid noises....whats going on with this?? help me!!

Message: If I'm not mistaken the speakers in that thunderform are each a SVC 8 ohm. They are paralleled to the single terminal to give you a 4 ohm nominal load. Lanzar amps are supposed to run a 4 ohm mono or 2 ohm stereo but sometimes they are just stubborn. I tried hooking up a lanzar a while back and it kept going into protection. I'm not sure which model you have but I was trying to wire up a vibe 430 and it just wasn't cooperating. It eventually smoked and I bought an autotek for the customer.

Message: Check the resistance on your subs if they are four ohs each and you have them in paralell you would be showing the amp a 2 ohm mono load and probably shutting it down. Or it could just be that it is a P.O.S.

Message: Go to a computer store and buy one the fans that go in computers. They are really small and fairly quiet.
I took one out of our old computer. I hooked the positive of the fan to the remote of my amp, and grounded then grounded it. Works great
