Message: If I was you I would start with some good component speakers (seperate tweeters and cones).Ovation is a great place to go. They have knowlegable sales associates and certified instalers. If you do not have an ovation where you live just about any shop will do.Just make sure that you talk to someone who is M.E.C.P. certified. Most shops are very friendly and will be very helpful. Another thing to be wary of is who you take advice from. If you don't know anything about car audio don't talk to some 18 year old punk who talks a big game. Talk to someone in their mid 20s early 30s.Take it from me an 18 year old punk who talks a big game but doesn't know all he thinks he does.I hope I have been of some assistance.

Just FYI
I am too putting in a "good" system in my truck.
Although I am spending around $800 on it. I'm not sure on your budget limits. But I am posting my install and how much everything cost on my web site.
I'm installing 4 new speakers, cd deck, 300watt mono amp, and 2 10"'s in the rear.
if u have questions email me or IM me on AIM at : bikeman658
hope this helps

Message: If you want a great system, you don't HAVE to go with components. Unless you're just nit-picky about your sound, I would just go with some good coaxles or three-ways. Also, unless you plan on adding an amp to the speakers (more $$$) I suggest you just get a good high power reciever and some efficient speakers. If you're looking for opinions on speakers, I'm sure everybody and their brother will tell you what is the "best" but go somewhere that you can hear them before you buy them. You're the one who is going to be listening to them. I really liked my infinity kappas in my old '93, but i had an amp to them. Just remember--anything sounds better than stock.
as for the bass, do you have reg or ext cab ??
do you like tight or boomy bass ??

Message: For the bass, it's kinda like what are you willing to give up. Are you willing to give up the space to have kick a$$ bass, or are you willing to give up bass to have the extra room??
if it were me, i would ditch the back for a ported box with 2 12's, but like i said before, you're the one listening to it. you may want to go to a few car audio places and "audition" different equipment. this will give you an idea of how different stuff will sound. if you want the boomy bass, i would suggest looking into ported or bandpass boxes.

Message: Hey 93DakV8,
I'm in the same situation as you (same truck too). I'd like a pretty decent system, yet I don't really want to lose the extra space of the club cab. I'd really like to find some good replacements for the factory speakers and a decent cd player. Hopefully under $400.

Message: I have one X Max 10 pushed by a Phonex Gold 300.2 amp. For quality sound that's what I would go with. Infact I just bought the amp and speaker. I now need new tires, so I need to get rid of both. The amp could be used to push the ten, plus your mids and highs.

Message: If any of yous are intrested I have two 10" JL Audio w0 Subs in a wedge box for $120 plus shipping. This box would be perfect for and extended cab because it gives of excellant bass and takes up little space. I could also put those same speakers into two seperate truck sub boxes for $150 plus $20 shipping. All the boxes are in perfect shape and the subs only show wear around the edge where the mounting screws go.

Message: how good a system you put in your truck depends on how much you are willing to spend. if you want a good sounding system you are going to have to spend a little bit of money. if you just want some bass you can always just add an amp and a couple of subs, or just one sub. as far as the best speakers and subs. that depends who you talk to. everybody has their own opinion. as for me, i work at a stereo shop in pasadena, tx. we deal with JL Audio, PPI and Eclipse. me personally, i have 2 JL 12's in a RC with components in my doors. i have an Eclipse CD player and an EQ and crossover. one amp powers my whole system. i recently hit a 137 Spl at a competition. if you want, send me an email and i'll see what i can do for you.

Message: Hottie, my suggestion is to go to Best Buy or Circuit City. They can do your whole system for cheaper than buying it all separate. Plus, you can go there and listen to everything to find what you like.
