Subject: Upgrading stock radio IP: Logged
Message: My 2000 dak came with the upgraded radio/tape player. This is the one with the 5 ch. eq and speaker joy stick. I would like to change it out for a head that will handle mp3's as well as standard cd audios. Can anyone recommend a good replacement?
Thanks

Message: I'm a big fan of JVC. I have a JVC KD-SX980. I bought it at etronics.com. The thing is great. I had it for a month now and plays MP3's quite fine. I already had a an install kit for my 2001 Dakota from a previous install (a JVC cassette player / CD Changer controller).
BTW, the display blends quite well with the rest of the dash. I also have a CD changer with this (from previous install).

Message: I installed the kenwood z828 mp3 player, i like it but it's kinda up there in price, but i havent found another brand with the remote that has a numberpad on it, so when i want to go to song # 156 i simply type in 156, rather than push the foward button 156 times.

Message: I purchased a Pioneer DEH-740 and need to install it in my 2001. How does the dash panel come apart? I didn't see any screws, but don't want to yank on it either

Message: I've owned all of the name brands of cd players over the years. But---over the last few years---I think pioneer has really jumped ahead of the other companies. You get so much more for your money and the tuner is top of the line. I just bought a deh-6400 for my dak---and am amazed with the features.

Message: It probably depends on the year, but for a 1999 here's all you do.
Tilt the steering wheel all the way down.
Put the shifter (autos) all the way down into 1st gear.
Then you just start at the lower right corner of the black plastic bezel/dash front piece and pull. I series of metal clips will pop free from the dash. Apply firm but even pressure to the bezel, and always pull from as close to the next clip (spot of resistance) as possible so the plastic doesnt get stressed, Once you get around to the headlight switches n stuff, just work it gently and it will wiggle free from them.
It's honnestly very easy. Just take your time and be mindful of those metal clips- you don't want to lose or break any.

Message: I found this site to be helpful for stereo wiring harness color codes....
http://www.installdr.com/QuickWiring.html
better yet, pick up a harness adapter so you don't have to cut the factory wires.
