Subject: Kicker subs and amp
IP: Logged

Message:
I just got sponsored by Kicker, not for my truck or system or anything but for me racing motocross,

I want to get 2 12inch L7 dvc subs rms (375 watts per voice coil).

And I don't know much about dvc subs, different ohm levels, so i dont know what size amp to get or to what ohm level I should wire them at.

Any help would be appreciated

Well, it all depends on what ohm of subwoofers you get. With 2 DVC 4 ohm subs, you can get a 1,4, or 16 ohm load. With 2 DVC 2 ohm subs, you can get a .5,2, or 8 ohm load. When you are in the market for an amp, look for what ohm load it is stable to in the mono mode. Some are 4 ohm and some are safe to even 1 or .5 ohms. Stereo operation is usually safe to half of this per channel.

www.jlaudio.com has good tutorials.

I was thinking the 4 ohm. the kicker amp said it was stable at 1 ohm.

What is the difference between a 4ohm sub and a 2 ohm sub? besides the obvious

there is generally no difference only in a very few occasions have i seen any of the specs change such as the T/S parameters. It is there to aid you in designing your system, to give you more options. as stated above jl has a wealth of info

92Dak and cc are right... the ohms do not make ANY noticable difference in the subs. I have no idea what jeff is talking about.

The correct ohm load depends on the amp and wiring configuration of the speakers. Find the amps highest output into a mono (bridged) load and see what ohm level it can handle (2 or 4ohms most likely) then get the correct model subs and wire them accordingly to produce THAT load.

Two dual 4 ohm voice coils subs would give you 1 ohm OR 4 ohm final load depending how it's wired. I doubt the amp will happy in a 1ohm mono situation unless it's 1/2 ohm stable in stereo, but the 4 ohm load would be perfect for most good amps.

Just remember to divide the amps total power by FOUR to figure out each voice coil. So to run at 375 watts a coil you need an amp that pushes 1500 watts bridged into a 4 ohm load - good luck and get your VISA card ready.

I have a pioneer ts wx 1200 and this thing is bad ass it handles 400W of power at 4 ohm and sounds sweet. Personally i dont care for kicker they have bad reputation for being capable of overheating. Pioneer is the way you want to go though but stick with a big Amp i have a Memphis amp that is bad ass 2. for the amount of money spent on a kicker sub and what you get out of it f-that you are better of going Pioneer After all they are THE ART OF ALL AUDIO ENTERTAINMENT

You are a dumbass "Kicker Sucks"

Kicker amps are very nice and are underrated.

Granted...they aren't like the ones from a few years back. But still...very good equipment.

Atleast I don't see them posting some 760 watt power rating on the heatsink when they only do 380.

I have had good luck with Pioneer subs, though. Not bad for the money.

Well, if it's a dual voice coil sub and each coil is 4 ohm, then when theyre wired parallel, you've got a perfectly matched 2 ohm setup.

Thats how I hooked up my little Kicker S8L7. I've got an amp pushing 600watts at 2 ohms, to the little DVC sub. It's the best little setup thats perfectly matched.
