Subject: If you had $1000 and Six Holes to fill IP: Logged
Message: My stock "Premium" six-speaker sound system sucks. I guess I can keep my stock CD/Cassette deck (that's fine) if I buy a decent amp. If you got a $1000 bucks and want to fill the 6-stock speaker holes plus buy an amp; What equipment/brand name would YOU buy? What would sound good in my baby (2000 4.7 Auto Club Cab). There no way I'm puttin' a box for speakers in the cab cuz I really need the room.
I'm an Old Fart (Oooooh! not a forbidden word!) and I don't want a system so loud that it makes my ears bleed.
I do want a system that crisp and clear. An under seat amp is OK.
Any suggestions?
Yours,
And remember, Dirty Old Men need love too.

Message: Buy a good set of components for the doors (I love my diamonds crisp and very clear) and a set of 6.5inch subs for the back. I know JL Audio makes them and I think kicker makes some free air ones that would work well. Run them as a mono channel. Buy a decent name 4 channel amp (4 x 50 watts should do fine) and buy a line converter to convert the speaker level off your head unit to a preamp level for the amp. Imaging will be alot better because you won't have voices and other instruments coming from behind you. And the subs will give you enough bottom to sound good but not be boomy and annoying. Component speakers $200 - $300 The subs from JL are like $79 each and a good amp should take up most of the rest of your budget. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Message: Here is my 2 cents (so now your down to $999.98 to spend, sorry)...
Ditch the stock unit and get a nice CD player this way you'll have a clean signal to send to your amp. Get a 4 channel amp wtih around 200 watts (50 X 4), a set of 6.5" components in the front doors and single 8" sub to go behind/under the rear seats. Personally I like Clarion radios, Infinity components, HiFonics amps and Kicker subs, but a listen a local stereo shop is in order especially for the components. Each item will cost around $200-$300 to hit the budget, but do not forget about wiring/connectors that's another $100 easy.

Message: Stay away from Audiobahn subs. They are a lot of chrome and flash, but not with the performance to back it up.
Audiobahn subs on a Clarion HU will sound no different than Audiobahn subs on another HU with the same pre-outs. I am guessing Justin has heard this setup and decided that these two pieces of equipment put together are the "best".
There are many other companies with higher quality products.

Message: I personally replaced all my factory location speakers with Orion NT's.
I used the NT 6S's up front and NT 6's in the rear.
They are running off my factory amp (premeium infinity) and a JVC cd player. They sound great, I can turn it way up and not have any distortion.
I have a 98 CC BTW.
My buddy has a QC with JL seperates up front and kicker 8's in the rear doors (made the holes larger) I really like the way his JL's sound up front. You can buy 2 pairs of seperates and still have money left over for an amp or a cd player.

Message: if it was me.....id do boston rally componets...(best on market) AND AMP THEM WITH THE ALPINE F300 then i would get a 8 inch sub throw it behind passenger seat....people say u need a new deck but i dont think its that necessary......it will just make ur speakers loud but if your old you dont want them loud so keep the stock deck....plus i think it looks nicer then a aftermarket deck..

Message: Focal. Just my .02 worth. There are tons of good quality speakers out there that cost a butt-load, but I would suggest Focal. ADS and MB Quart are a close second and third. An Alpine amp to go under the seat would be awesome on those speakers too. You can get a V-Power for about $200, 40watts RMS per channel. Like I said, just my opinion. There are alot of good chioces out there.

Message: Focals are insanely overpriced. I would get some MB quarts. I have 2 sets of 3-ways in my truck and the are incredibly loud and perfectly clear. You can pick up a set of 2 ways for $189. A set of coaxils in the back and any quality amp that will push a true 50x4 is just fine.
