Subject: Premium 6 speaker stereo sounds

Message:

Has anyone replaced their stock stereo system with an aftermarket amp and new speakers? I was told by two different salesmen (@Circuit City/Best Buy) that even the premium Dakota 6-speaker sound system was cheap primarily due to the factory speakers being of paper construction.

They do sound dull to me even with the graphic equalizer and directional fader speaker control.
I put an amp and better speakers in my last truck before my Dakota and the sound was allot clearer.

1. Again, has anyone up-graded their stock system?

2. If so, how'd it sound?

3. What brand amp/speakers do you recommend? (What sounds best in a Dakota?)

4. Where is the best place to install the amp?

5. Where is the best place to get new up-grades?

I live in Northern California in a college town call Chico. Our city has many of the usual chain electronics stores.

6. Are the chain electronic stores the best price- wise or are the smaller "mom and pop" stereo stores better?

I don't know if the stock in-dash CD/Cassette is just weak or all it needs is an amp and better speakers.

I'll probably go with about 650 amps for all six speakers. Price is always an issue but for a better sounding system I'll pay a little more.

Sorry for all the questions, I just want get a great sounding system without running around to all the electronics outlets in town and talking to, "biased for their house product" salesmen.

Thanks and Mopar2ya
