Message: Well, I have built my own speaker enclosure and after I got all of it screwed together, I layed the 12" in the hole and guess what, it sounds horrible... not enough cubic airspace for these 12"s... 1 Kicker 12" comp and one called ER, ever heard of them? I got it from a friend for a trade for a pioneer remote... it sounds just as good if not better than the Kicker.
well, I looked in my Crutchfield and looked to see how much airspace is needed for a general 12"... i have way to little... i have .689 cu.ft. per enclosure... and most 12" take at least 1... So I just went and bought a JBL 10" ($30) and I'll make a "fitting" to fit the 10" in the 12" hole... I'll post pics of the box, fiberglass bottom and the diagram I drew for other to see how it was done later. Just wanted to share the little fiasco with y'all.

Message: Kickers are known for their need for large airspaces. I would recommend 1.75 for the Kickers even if they are rated at 1.0

Message: You could probably get away with a Kicker solo-baric SL-7 for that size box, but they are pricey at about $350 ea, and are power hungry, but they sound great.

Message: I'd tell your boy to throw away that 18" and buy a 2X8 or a 2X10. The cabinet size needed to effectively use that 18 isn't worth it (probably 3'x4'x5')
18" speakers are only useful for staduim subs or church organs.

Message: 18"s also wobble because of their humongus surface area.
Also, Did you just say you used 2 different types of subs in one box? Thats a NO NO, never mix and match when it comes to subs. Thats may be the reason you got that "ew" sound.

Message: I would like to see the pics for your box you built as well. Is this for a Ext Cab or Quad? I am debating between buyin the MTX 2X10 custom encloser for an 03 ext cab or trying to figure something out that I can build myself for just 1 10" sub.

Message: you could always try and put some polyester in your box. this will slow down the sound waves, making it sound like you have a bigger box, even though you actualy have like less then a cubic foot to work with.

Message: I've got the MTX Thunderform box in my truck. The box is great. I would highley recomend NOT going with the MTX speakers or the amp. I've got a Directed Audio 1200 watt amp and Rockford Fosgate Punch 2's in the box. Its LOUD! Its not up for a competition, but you'll hear me coming. It does good for just cruisin' around town.
I've had the MTX subs. They weren't that good. O.k. at best. Then I went to Audiobahns. They were pretty good. I liked them, but I ate up the voice coil. I've had the Fosgates for a month and I'm very impressed with the sound quality and the power handling.
They are not very efficient amp for amp and are kind of power hungary, but with a 1200 watt amp, I can deal with it
