Subject: Help me please? IP: Logged
Message: I bought a used 2000 CC Dakota which came with the Infinty system sounds good for now but I know I want more in the future. Don't know much about subs and amps though. My questions are:
1.I want to buy a new CD head unit along with replacing the tweeters and door speakers. Can I use the stock amp that came with the infinity system for this or do I need a seperate amp? would there not be enough power? also want I the MTX T-form w/ the subs but want to use a different amp. Would 300 watts be enough? Which amp can fit under the driver seat and give enough power? I hope I don't need 2 seperate amps for this setup cause it would be hard to find spots for them! Should I keep the head unit and just replace the speakers and add the 2 10's with an amp? Can anyone give me some feedback on what to do, it would be much apreciated! Dakotas Kick ASS!

Message: dafat,
I would suggest getting a new amp if your gonna replace the components in the door. I've heard a good aftermarket amp is better than the factory Infinity amps, I'm sure you'll notice a difference. 300W will run a T-form just fine, though 500W is what you should give it to work it to its full potential. (each of the speakers are rated 250W each....250+250=500......) I'm powering mine with only an MTX 4250D (200x1 into 4ohms) with the External Bass Control and it sounds great. I use an MTX class D mono amp for the subs because it runs nice and cool under the seat and is small. You should be able to fit one amp under each seat, I've fit mine fine under there just fine.

Message: Mike-
What are the dimensions of the amps you are using? I want to put a JL Audio 250/1 mono amp underneath my front seat, but don't know if it will fit with a heighth of 2.36". THanks.

Message:
MTX 4250D under driver seat = 9.3" x 9.75" x 2.1"
MTX 4244 passenger seat = 11.5"x 9.75" x 2.1"
Theres still a little clearance above the amps, I don't think you should have trouble with height. Worst comes to worst and you really want to use that amp, unbolt the four seat bolts and put a few washers on them. Thats a real easy way to give you that extra bit of height you may need and you won't really notice the height difference in the seat.

Message: What if I have power seat on the driver side? Could I fit an amp under there? It seems that there isn't as much clearence as there is on the passenger side that is not power seat.
